I finally settled on a name for a personal gaming company/label, so it's time to register a domain! The name is available. But I was just wondering, what registration and/or hosting service do people like for their game company/personal portfolio pages?

I'd advice nazwa.pl but it's a Polish one, yet works very well for me.

I've got a domain registered with GoDaddy, which has been hassle-free. My hosting is provided by a Danish company, though, so I have no experience with GoDaddy's hosting.

I've heard good things about www.zoneedit.com when it comes to managing domain names and other DNS stuff. I think they give you lots of control, allowing you to do cool things easier. You can register domain names anywhere and them move them to (for example) zoneedit. Or register them directly via zoneedit+domain.com GoDaddy was part of the SOPA/PIPA initiative: http://godaddyboycott.org/

I'm using eukhost and it's very good. Also, 24/7 live chat support is wonderful

I DO NOT recommend GoDaddy, they will register the names you tried to search on their site (after a certain time, so if you decide to buy in a few days you should be OK) also, recently they went even further, they will find themselves similar name to yours, claim it and them email you with an offer to sell it :D Domain register and scam service all in one I think http://www.namecheap.com/ is OK (haven't been using them that long through).

Hmmm. I'm starting to wish I could've bought my domain from someone else. Sadly that wasn't an option.

I used godaddy for years until I discovered namecheap. I've been slowly transferring all of my domains away from godaddy. I'll eventually be completely rid of them and their fugly Danica. For hosting, we discovered Hostnine a few years ago and have been with them ever since... and that's after going through dozens of other hosts, including hostgator, ev1, etc... all have failed us. Hostnine has been consistently kickass for years... they've had problems here and there, but they always get things fixed up quickly. VERY responsible company.

I wholeheartedly endorse http://www.JustHost.com, owing to their awesome customer support, price, and liberal TOS. If you read the fine print of services elsewhere (eg smthg like goDaddy), you'll find stuff like "You acknowledge and agree that X may suspend, cancel, transfer or modify your use of the Services at any time, for any reason, in X’s sole discretion and without notice to you." Full disclosure; I think I may still be registered as a reseller though I never rly pursued it. All told I think I've had a half-dozen websites registered/hosted thru them. They are awesome.

i recommend nearlyfreespeech.net
nearlyfreespeech is awesome, especially if you don't expect much traffic. Hostgator is my favorite monthly-fee web host.

I'm recanting my support of justHost, they've changed mngmnt and have gone straight down the shitter.
The email link they sent me confirming cancellation of nickelcitypixels.com actually sent me to a form that cancelled mikejkelley.com. Mikejkelley.com is where I host my email. I'm currently expecting a job offer. This is bad.
Here's a link explaining. It would be great if you could bump the views.
Don't give me any grief about reviving an old thread, I don't need it. Web hosting recommendations are perennial. As indie devs we need to stick together on things like this.

I'll also recommend namecheap.com, with some reservations. I've had repeated issues with their mail servers, and a few issues with payments, but their customer service is extremely responsive and helpful. Their prices are also very friendly.
