I came to Tigforums originally to find a programmer for my game project, Into This World. But I also had aspirations to make a River City Ransom game. What started as casual turned into full fledged. Check out the announcement and the website (or lack thereof right now)... http://combitstudios.com/2013/04/river-city-ransom-announced/www.rivercityransom.com

Great. RCR is a really really nice game, that I played a lot back in the days. And last summer with a friend, great game.
How did you get a hold of the license? I've been looking to get a hold of a few licenses, but it's hard do even know where to start looking?

I am unfortunately not allowed (apparently) to talk anything license related. Honestly contact whoever you want to. They might be having a hard time getting a game out and wouldn't mind someone coming in to help or takeover. Maybe... it's a crapshoot. Or sell your body on the streets to make ends meet. That's how I got through college. The good ol' days. Kinda miss them. Hmmm... I wonder if I still fit into that mini skirt.

there's something sort of unsettling and delegitimising about being officially licensed but also crowdfunding, sorry

What's delegitimised about it? What's so bad if they paid for the license (either up front or promising a % of the revenue)? It just looks like they were big fans of something and wanted to make it official rather than an unrelated clone. If Inxile had to pay someone for the Wasteland 2 and Torment licenses that wouldn't somehow stop them from crowdfunding, imo (in fact I think they did pay for Torment). Kind of like the dudes who just got the Jagged Alliance license and are running a Kickstarter campaign for it. I'd back that if I had more faith in their abilities (they've yet to release their upcoming Space Hulk game). It's better than making clones without credit.

Thanks for the backup. I don't want to start any wars on here at all. I am a huge fan and just want to see an actual sequel finally come out. It's been way too long. The original RCR hit such a great tone with it's gameplay, goofy characters, free roaming, and general bizarreness. All I would like to do is honor that. This game is a love letter. A sexy love letter, in fact. Our team has been a fan of the game since it came out. I'm not allowed to talk anything regarding legal mumbo jumbo but we are not a bunch of rich money grubbing mogols of any type. Consider us super fans that are motivated. I'm pouring my heart into this game. Not literally because I don't even know how you would begin smelting heart ore. I'm (trying) to make a game that will satisfy modern day fighting game fans and old school beat em' up fans. I mean... who doesn't like beating people up? Amiright?

So, this has a Kickstarter huh! $180,000 CAD goal, $15 CAD lowest tier that nets the game, just click for more. The video pitch has some gameplay footage, it looks really nice, I like the attack animations and backgrounds. Did the studio change name though, or is it a new studio? Conatus Creative?
