Hey guys, I've created a twitter bot called @gameideamachine which I thought people round here might find useful. It basically tweets random game ideas every so often, but you can also send simple commands to the bot to ask for an idea of a particular type.

The code is all on github, and I'm open to suggestions or improvements, especially if anyone want to add more words and phrases to improve the pool (although right now it has over 220 million possible ideas).

I'm hoping it will prove to be a useful tool for people looking for a bit of inspiration, especially for things like game jams, it's only been running for a few days so far, and it's already helped me and a few others get some cool ideas.

Have a look and let me know what you think.

Funny stuff, looks like an advanced version of the Superb Joe phrase generator.

Thanks! I've tried to find the right line tonally, somewhere between funny enough to want to follow and serious enough to be genuinely useful as a tool. Hopefully it's not too far off the mark at the moment.

My favorite on the first glance:

"A game where you carry an assault rifle that fires healing rays but is more effective against some enemies"

Haha I'm gonna start using twitter just because of this.

A game where you are an old artist who hates music and hoards collectables

Some of my favs:

  • A critically acclaimed game jam entry with rogulike elements, procedural content and no UI
  • A crowd funded game jam entry with a powerful message, crafting and vector graphics
  • An online platformer where you intimidate evil zombie nazis with swords
  • A critically acclaimed IGF entry with a high score table, difficult moral choices and only 2 buttons
  • An open source student project dealing with issues of hatred and identity
  • An indie platformer with user generated content, local multiplayer and only 1 button

I have a hard time believing this is a bot, and not a bored designer having fun.
I might register to Twitter for this.
