Uh. People have already given all the source ports names. We don't need to come up with something new to call them.

I'm sure exactly where to draw the line between "legit" and annoyingly old school is open to debate, but I'd at least say that using jumping and vertical aim and such new features in levels designed for proper DOOM is cheating. When you're playing levels that are designed for one source port or another it's a different matter.

I was making the argument that source ports hardly constitute a "new game".

Okay. I'm not sure if you're saying that "DOOM with jumping" is exactly like DOOM, or if you're just making some point about variations of DOOM not being some out of nowhere kind of newness. Would it have been fine by you if he had said "if you make the game work differently than the original then you're making a different game" instead?

You can always turn off the new features and just use ZDoom in a way that is (close to) vanilla DooM with high resolutions and mouse sensitivity. But then you might as well use Prboom instead since it's more accurate.
