@tantan:
I guess that's the exception that proves the rule.
Why does it prove the rule by being an exception to it?
That's just a saying. It means, like... if the rule wasn't *mostly* true, then you would never have noticed the exception. Therefore the exception proves the rule. At least, I think that's what it means  Shrug

Hard Sci-Fi like the Foundation trilogy or Rama is probably pretty hard to make into faithful movie adaptations, because of the high tempo that is required nowadays. I don't remember, but 2001 was probably pretty slow. I remember Star Trek (1) was.

I suppose it might be theoretically possible to compile the books into an interesting movie while staying faithful, but it'll have to pass through the Sturgeon's Law filter.

Similarly, a sign that says "parking prohibited on Sundays" (the exception) "proves" that parking is allowed on the other six days of the week (the rule).

Well, I guess I was using #3, 'loose rhetorical sense'. Shrug

Could this be the film to finally pair Will Smith with Keanu Reeves???

Though the books definitely went south right around Foundation's Edge.

Hari Seldon to be played by Samuel L Jackson.

You know you want it to be true.

It can't be worse than turning a book that fought the ignorance of fearing technological advances and other cultures into a Frankenstein movie. Angry

Oh, who am I kidding. They'll turn it into a bad Star Wars remake when it's really the other way around.

I dunno, but I too have a feeling Hollywood will ruin this one. I mean, when was the last time they actually brought a faithful adaption of ANYTHING?

I also fear that they may ruin this. Especially with Emmerich directing. I mean, Independence Day? Godzilla? 10000 BC?

Agreed.  This does not bode well.
