UPDATE 34
wobble wobble~ Did a bit of programmatic animation, partially by shader, on the jellyfish while moving. Note also more motion on the tentacles while driving.

UPDATE 35
Small update. I just got this in place, so it doesn't look amazing yet, but I did get it working and that's pretty cool. The water surface now reacts to the submarine hitting it, creating waves.

Slowly but surely. Just keeps getting better! Once you start putting particles on all that, gonna be awesome. Nice to see it slowly evolve with your progress in each GIF.

UPDATE 36
Indeed! I'm happy that I'm managing to pull the stuff I want off as well. A lot of it I haven't programmed before so I'm experimenting around. First attempt at bubbles. Again, doesn't look amazing just yet, but it is working. Detail work later.

Looks cool. I would make the bubbles rise instead of just disperse like that.

I don't know that dude but that face falling in the water made me chuckle. I agree about the bubbles rising, would look better that way. I look forward to the water surface "breaking" when the an object lands in it. Since water is such a fundamental part of your game, it'll be important to nail this one on the head. Also, when the sub is idle, shouldn't the jelly fish tentacles "fall" downward instead of remaning straight? Anyways, I like the atmosphere here. I hope things get really creepy or weird the deeper you go in the water.

You're both right about the bubbles. We'll see when I get around to trying that out. I look forward to the water surface "breaking" when the an object lands in it. Since water is such a fundamental part of your game, it'll be important to nail this one on the head. Water surface is honestly not, tho, I don't think. You'll be spending most of your time way below any surfaces. But I still want to make it look good, of course. Also, when the sub is idle, shouldn't the jelly fish tentacles "fall" downward instead of remaning straight? Dunno. It's not like the jellyfish dies and can't hold them up any more when the sub stops. I kinda like the look of them this way. But we'll see! Anyways, I like the atmosphere here. I hope things get really creepy or weird the deeper you go in the water. Hopefully!

UPDATE 37
Geez. What a burnout. Haven't gotten anything done for weeks on end. No energy. But on the 25th of March I finally implemented Unicode text rendering using SDL2_ttf and today I finally got around to implementing the (inner) monologue system I'd been planning. When approaching certain things that can be examined, a little icon like this will pop up above the sub, and a single short sentence or two (i.e. never more than one box; no flippin' pages here) may optionally be displayed if the action button is pressed. This text represents the thoughts of the person in the submarine while observing whatever it is in question. I'll make the box look good at some point. Coded this up as fast as I could just to get it working.

Great to see an update. Don't sweat the burnout. It happens. Trying to force creativity when you're burned won't help you either, cause you will just be churning out work you replace later. I'm actually feeling a bit burned myself, gonna wrap up some demo builds tonight and then probably take the rest of the week off.
I like the inner monologue text boxes. Great start.

Yeah, I'm going to try to limit myself to finishing a single milestole like this at a time and then take the rest of the day off, happy with that progress. I didn't work any more after the ~5 or so hours I spent on this today. That's better than nothing, still hopefully making a little progress almost every day.
Thanks!
Just so you know, I've still been reading your thread too, even tho I can't say much than that the progress is still as solid as ever and that you're doing a great job as always.
