First of all... hello. I'm terrible at introductions. Normally, I'm happy to say nothing at all.
However, I have a nagging thought in the back of my head. Is it just me, or did indiecade kinda not work out at E3?
It seems that E3 is a place for big boys to show off the penis. In a deluge of E3 coverage, does anything small really stand a chance? I hardly saw a SINGLE word of indie coverage for the event from anyone.
As a promotor for indie games, there seems to be more attention AND more respect at GDC or PAX or... God, anywhere else. Efforts at other events would be more effective.
I think we should just get out of the way of this ridiculous circus of sequels.

E3 has never been a very good place for anyone but the big studios. That's just how it is.

It doesn't even seem to be a good place for the 'kinda big' studios. Think of all the money and time you'd have to spend to set up a booth. Now realize that your efforts will be buried under a ton of trailers from Nintendo.
It seems kinda crazy. There are SO many things happening all in a few short days. Kotaku was updating like every 5 minutes with a new trailer. I couldn't keep track of E3 at all this year. I nearly missed Scribblenauts and who knows what other interesting games were simply covered up by flashier displays from bigger competitors.
It'd be nice if they set up a map of E3 with an interactive timeline for viewing trailers or somethin'. At least then we could see *everything* instead of having to guess and sift through countless unsorted articles.

Indiecade was there, but there's a really big lack of news about it. Hell, none of the major news places even bothered to post the list

I was in Indiecade, and it's a little disappointing at the lack of coverage, but E3 was very huge this year for the bigger games.
But! The coverage wasn't really that big of a deal for me. I was able to talk to a lot of people at the event that will mean good things for Snapshot in the future. So in that regard, Indiecade worked a lot for me.
It was a really amazing set up though. We had a bunch of couches and chairs and tables laid out across our booth space with the games on both ends, so it became "home base" to all the indies that were there. It was a lot of fun.
(Also thanks to my Indiecade pass I got my picture taken with Miyamoto. IT WAS AWESOME.)

If a indie game/developer/developer group would be able to force their way into the spotlight of E3, I'd be amazed. It would be very nice to see though.
(Also more pictures with Miyamoto and indie developers needed)

Upper Mid level productions have a hard time fighting for media time, if you aren't a hardware manufacturer or one of the biggest 3rd parties, then tough shit, you won't get too much press.

yes, even low-level mainstream game companies (like atlus) are often ignored at the e3, not just indies

where was Indiecade located? Fuck me, I didn't even know this was going on at E3. Now I'm pissed I wasted time at other booths

As I recall, during the "fake E3" years, IndieCade got a lot more press. With all the spectacle drawing attention of the press in a bazillion directions, I'd imagine it being quite difficult for IndieCade to compete this year.
So apparently there's going to be a festival dedicated to IndieCade on October. I'm quite curious about the format, but no details so far have been released.
IndieCade 2009 Festival October 1 - 4, 2009 Culver City, CA

I heard plenty of news about Cave Story and Scribblenauts, if that counts.

Kotaku covered a few things from IndieCade. Snapshot, Scribblenaughts (is that indie now, I don't really know any more) and that Fluffy controller tech. Which is better than nothing, I guess.

I'm pretty sure scribblenauts isn't indie EDIT: well they're independently owned and funded, but it's not like IGF indie

i don't think indie games means amateur, it's just that if you have a budget of a million dollars + and a dozen employees and are offering people jobs on your site, even if you aren't owned by a publisher, it's hard to justify calling it an indie game. i mean, look at their wikipedia page:
Founded August 28, 2003 Headquarters Bellevue, Washington USA Key people Joseph M. Tringali (Managing Director) Jeremiah Slaczka (Creative Director) Brett Caird (Business Director) Marius Falhbusch (Technical Director)
and those are just the 'key' people

If you have "directors", you are not indie.
