You asked for it.
(prepare for content overload)

Never really drew much with a pencil, I used to be a member on gaiaonline back in 2004, it started my pixel art.
I used to go by the alias soulcop, dropped down to Souly when I joined pixeljoint.
Maybe if I spent more time drawing and less time posting 15k posts on that site these wouldn't be so bad...

Started doing commissions for virtual gold within gaiaonline.  Shrug

holy these are so bad.  Droop

One of my first pixel art pieces was actually a rip from the artist Ensellitis.

his - mine

 Big Laff
Ensell currently hosts my website http://punky.ensellitis.com

I made an animation of me fighting a stick figure in highschool.

Here are two old drawings from the 16 year old me.
I don't even get the joke from the first one.

Starting in '05 I spent 6 years at pixeljoint without drawing on paper much at all.
Start at page 1 of my pixeljoint and go up if you want to see the entire progression of my art chronologically.

Still in highschool around 2005-06 I started moding phpBB forums to make my own avatar based forum using a dynamic avatar mod called NulAvatar.
First was Penguin Paradise

2007 I made Terra Online

It had like 50 users or so, I had added an RPG mod called Advanced Dungeons & Rabbits.
So that plus the Dynamic Avatars made my site one of the few of it's kind.

18 years old, while working night shift at 7-11 I began to draw on the back of receipt strips, these pretty much defined my style.

You didn't ask for an auto-biography about my evolution as an artist but you got one anyways.

I feel inferior to most of you now, you all drew such bad ass stuff as kids.
When I was younger I used to copy NHL logos, Dragon Ball characters and Megaman bosses.

Though I can safely say I've made an improvement of some kind.

Starting with
- Copying avatars into sprites from existing characters
- Learned to modify phpBB
- Modified my own dynamic avatar forum
- Got better at drawing and animating
- Learned to program in Game Maker
- Now I'm making my own games

I'd say 2004-2011 has been very productive, though I still mostly draw with a mouse 80% of the time.

 edit- This thread is doomed.

It's only a small part of my artistic career, but here's a character that's been redesigned over the course of four years:

Found this on an old amiga disk from 1999, its from a PC Edutainment game I worked on called Funschool Maths (PC). I had been playing a lot of The Chaos Engine at the time...

(top hud strip and green puppy were the art leads' work (Tony), rest is mine)

A comparison of the same scene, drawn almost exactly one year apart.

The 2012 one wasn't complete yet, but even at this stage it's miles beyond the 2011 pic.

The first piece of game-related media I ever created at age 6, in early 1988 (right-click & View Image to enlarge):

A sequel was immediately in the works:

Monsters!

A slightly later updated inventory list:

Lots of influence from Nintendo Power, as seen here:

Early in-game screenshot, it's a co-op Zelda 1 clone:

Ah, my gothy signature character Winston:

I eventually killed him off so that I could stop relying on him to make a picture pretty:

These days I do surrealist automatic drawing as well as programming. I'm currently getting a new piece drum-scanned before I get it framed for an exhibition.

Yeah, but I'd like to save that one for my swan song; to be the first and the last, the beginning and the end. I continued doing art like this for this game over the next 15~ years, so the game is literally one big box filled with ideas. It would be a challenge to make it all work together, but I've got a few ideas. If nothing else, I plan on keeping the spirit of this game in much of my work. I think Sword of Legends was probably one of the best examples of it, followed by Madhouse.

some really ugly stuff mostly from 2008-2010... doesn't seem that long ago. just some of the backgrounds for an adventure game called Ultamate Caray: The Unspoken that I was trying to make for years, went through like 6 interations... most of these backgrounds are from the 4th, the version I got farthest in. I think I planned for something like 150 backgrounds... here's most of what was done. This might belong in the unfinished game dump, but all the work I did back from this time WAS this game.

*arg everything lacks detail Angry*

it was going to be a point n' click rpg like Quest for Glory, but with aliens and a huge town to explore with completely optional houses(12 total I think), several optional shops, ect... I was focusing on having a lot of places to explore just for fun.

maybe I'll post some of the sprites, I had A LOT of stuff for the main character. I have even more music...

here's what he late 2010/2011 version looked like for comparison:

here's the same area but from 2007 lol:

maybe one day I'll make Ultamate Caraty happen.
