Never really drew much with a pencil, I used to be a member on gaiaonline back in 2004, it started my pixel art.
I used to go by the alias
soulcop, dropped down to Souly when I joined pixeljoint.
Maybe if I spent more time drawing and less time posting 15k posts on that site these wouldn't be so bad...
Started doing commissions for virtual gold within gaiaonline.
holy these are so bad.
One of my first pixel art pieces was actually a rip from the artist
Ensellitis.
his - mine
Ensell currently hosts my website
http://punky.ensellitis.comI made an animation of
me fighting a stick figure in highschool.
Here are two old drawings from the 16 year old me.
I don't even get the joke from the first one.
Starting in '05 I spent 6 years at pixeljoint without drawing on paper much at all.
Start at page 1 of my pixeljoint and go up if you want to see the entire progression of my art chronologically.
Still in highschool around 2005-06 I started moding phpBB forums to make my own avatar based forum using a dynamic avatar mod called
NulAvatar.
First was Penguin Paradise
2007 I made Terra Online
It had like 50 users or so, I had added an RPG mod called
Advanced Dungeons & Rabbits.
So that plus the Dynamic Avatars made my site one of the few of it's kind.
18 years old, while working night shift at 7-11 I began to draw on the back of receipt strips, these pretty much defined my style.
You didn't ask for an auto-biography about my evolution as an artist but you got one anyways.
I feel inferior to most of you now, you all drew such bad ass stuff as kids.
When I was younger I used to copy NHL logos, Dragon Ball characters and Megaman bosses.
Though I can safely say I've made an improvement of some kind.
Starting with
- Copying avatars into sprites from existing characters
- Learned to modify phpBB
- Modified my own dynamic avatar forum
- Got better at drawing and animating
- Learned to program in Game Maker
- Now I'm making my own games
I'd say 2004-2011 has been very productive, though I still mostly draw with a mouse 80% of the time.
