I've been making some doodles for these robot pets. The idea is that these are a sort of service robots or maybe just pets and I would like to make a very simple and minimalistic robot. I like the small square ones (the ones colored) but I failed trying to make them look like little robots. Any hint?

Make them look more mechanical. Right now, they look way to much like they're living organisms made out of tissue.

It's already a square, maybe make it look like a floppy disk? haha.

That idea already crossed my mind, but I don't think that will work at a very small scale. Maybe it will be much better to try with a 32x32 pixel grid instead of pen & paper.

Use a ruler to draw the straight lines. Do them in a single trace.
Irregular lines and multiple traces give drawings an organic feel that makes drawing robots harder.
Just draw them on the computer, using linetools or vectorial graphocs, and you'll see how they start looking more "artificial".
And make them shine, like they are made of plastic/metal.

The way you've drawn the eyes, with white and another lighter colour, gives the impression of fish-like flesh.
A very simple way to suggest robot-like-ness could be to animate a slow flashing light somewhere, maybe even use the eyes.
The heart of the problem is the absense of artifical or mechanical features.

Well I think you will all agree that this one is mucho better. Unbelievable what the touch of an artist can do to my crappy design. What do you think? I was hesitant whether to add to the game or not but now I'm all in.
