Hi, everyone.

The Windows version of Ignition Impulse has entered open beta, and I'm looking for feedback on literally everything - game mechanics, plot missions, all content, whatever you can think of. The game is slated to be released on both Windows and Mac, but a few major bugs/issues have held back the Mac version from entering open beta.

-EDIT-
As per biomechanic's feedback, here are three flavors of archives of the game - no installation necessary:
Rar

Zip

Minimum System Requirements:
OS: Windows XP® / Windows Vista® / Windows 7® (32 and 64-bit versions)

Graphics: Graphics adapter with 32 MB RAM (OpenGL and Direct3D supported)
Hard Drive: 82 MB free space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compliant sound card
Input: Mouse and keyboard

Installation should be straight forward. It only requires you to click through some beta information and choose an installation location.

Please note that I have thick skin, so blunt criticism is more than welcome. However I think it is helpful to point out that I am a one-man team, so certain large effort changes are not necessarily realistic.

Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and/or drop by the forums.
Thanks for taking a look!

I just started working on a similar game two days ago and I added engine fires and muzzle flashes as soon as I was done with basic movement, so these two stick out for me as missing from your game.

That's just judging by the video, I may have tried the game if it weren't for the installer.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually did have thruster animations early on but removed them because I felt they were too distracting during combat. Muzzle flashes are something I hadn't considered, although I do believe I need particle effects for shield and armor collisions with projectiles.

May I ask why the installer was a roadblock for you? Is there another format you prefer instead?

When it comes to random games from the internet a zip file is better. Installers are too much of a hassle, what with their multiple steps, having to browse for install directories, having to uncheck checkboxes, potential for getting a nasty adware surprise, and then dealing with it all again when uninstalling. With an archive it's a simple progression of unzip, play, delete.

That's actually a pretty good point. Surprising that no one has mentioned that to me before. Archive incoming.
