Oh, and I just reached the 72% point! As expected, the completion percent has been rising a bit more slowly lately, mostly due to stuff unrelated to the game but also because there're several things I've been redoing and editing in order to make the game better. There're still a couple areas that feel severely unfinished, with some missing cutscenes and especially dialogue, so fixing/adding those will probably require a whole load of time at some point.

Basically by cheating. The percent is calculated by checking how many rooms I've completed and dividing that by the total amount of rooms in the map. So it doesn't take into account anything but new areas. Really skewed, yeah, but this far it has seemed to be pretty reliable. As I get closer to 100% in terms of completed rooms, the amount of polish needed increases, though, so I'll probably have to be more vague later on.

Ahh, cool. That probably works great if you develop your code and assets when the areas call for it and know how many rooms you're going to make.

Wow, this looks incredible.

This might be more Metroid... than Metroid? (I'm not sure how to quantify that. But if it's at all possible, I think you might have pulled it off.)

After considering different possibilities for the longest time, I've decided that the game will most probably be completely free. This decision was affected a lot by seeing how much stress is included in commercially releasing a game.

Great news for all of us, of course. But could you not perhaps find someone to assist you with the businessy parts instead? (This way you could concentrate on getting the 73 up to 100, and still make a buck...)
