Just thought I'd mention that Jayisgames is hosting an interactive fiction competition. Deadline is Jan 31 2010, and the theme is "Escape".

My self and some friends plan on entering this. I think IF is an awesome format and easy to make for non programmers.

But for programmers inform 7 syntax is funky and takes a while to get used to it.

You can always use Inform 6 if you want, it's more like a typical programming language.

Yeah, When I looked at inform 7 i was like "Do I have to talk my PC into making me a game?"
