So I get this new job testing an educational software suite and the team includes AV folks and artists and sound guys etc, as well as the usual programmers and testers and administration.
Turns out the AV guys have a couple of awards between them, don't remember which ones but like Emmys or Grammys or something for work they did in previous jobs for HBO.
But today the finishing blow hit. There's this amusing woman in the art department upstairs who starts her Halloween preparations the month after the prior Halloween ends. So it wasn't unusual to see a "Día de los Muertos" shadow box on her desk. So, knowing her morbid fascination, I ask her if she's ever heard of the Video Game "Grim Fandango" and she says, "Oh yeah. That was what, 98, right? Right before Lucas Arts hired me."
*thud*
That was my jaw hitting the floor.
Turns out she doesn't do video games (or play them for that matter) but she does do art and did art for the Lucas Art's educational division for a while. So for "reference purposes" she'd go across the hall to the game guys, photocopy their concept art and put them together for herself.
I just held in my hands and flipped through the concept art for not only Grim Fandango but also Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and a bunch of non-descript Star Wars art. (There was a dude that had repulsor lifts for legs. Any ideas?)
I wonder if she'd let me take it home for the weekend to scan.

My main concern is pissing off the mighty LucasArts. But one little post on one little forum couldn't do any harm.

And if you get a cease and desist, you could just quickly take it down, and someone else would up it to 4chan!

I would have cared about pissing off LucasArts before George Lucas and co. pissed on every childhood memory I had of adventure games, Star Wars, and most recently Indiana Jones. Dooo iiiiit!

Friends with benefits? :shudder: Okay, seriously, the last thing I want is to be someone's buttery cornhole and I'd feel even WORSE if I went through the time and effort to scan in tons of papers to do it. So all joking aside guys, I know I may sound a little paranoid here, but I do not want to piss of Darth Vader when someone diggs the thread. I'd love to share this because it was awesome, but I don't know if all that effort is worth the risk.

Honestly I think you'd be pissing off not only lucas but the original authors of the drawings if you released that publicly. OTOH if you keep it privately and only release by, say, PM or any other non public mean, it should be okayish.

Make a zip with a password and only hand it out to you inner circle. Which sadly probably wouldn't be me.
