In some of the info it is mentioned that HQ will give your colony quotas every so often for certain items. Will this just be for standard resources, wood, stone, etc. or will HQ occasionally ask for more exotic items, 20 dragons teeth, 10 goblin heads, etc?

They will start out being quite mundane and will grow more exotic over time.

I am currently re-writing the way the dwarves decide what to do so that it is a centralized, synchronized system using the Hungarian Algorithm rather than the current decentralized, asynchronous system (which just randomly assigns tasks).

The biggest and most embarassing bug right now (aside from crashes) in the prototype is one where the dwarves just sit around doing nothing because of a deadlock in task assignment. They will try to build the same room over and over even if there are no proper resources or if its already built. They will also sit there doing nothing because the resource they want to gather has been taken by another dwarf. My solution of just reserving items to certain dwarves did not fix the issue, since the dwarves are still assigned goals even when they are impossible to achieve.

The new system will be "goal centric" rather than "agent centric". It will look through all the potential goals (gathering, digging, building, etc), and see which dwarves can fulfill those goals. It will then optimize an assignment of dwarves to tasks, and will have a queue of tasks for each dwarf. It's gonna take a while to make this work, but even if I don't I will still release the prototype tomorrow night.

Gentleman

Congrats on reaching the halfway mark! You're absolutely going to make it. This is actually the first and only project I've backed on Kickstarter so I really wish good things to come of it for you.

Why not "pineapple centric"?

Thank you! Things have been happening a lot faster than we can react. I've been getting dozens upon dozens of emails a day, and now that the prototype is out, we're getting dozens of bug reports as well. I think to avoid burning out I'm going to take it a bit more slowly, avoid responding to *every* email, and get some friends to help me respond to questions (especially since most of the questions we get are answered in the FAQ already).

I was playing DF and realized that dwarfs are actually very much communists Durr...?
I mean they share all the resources, get the same stuff independent of the work they've done and they don't get paid.

Since DC is quite similar in those ways, it's quite funny that DC Dwarfs are capitalists XD

I tried the game and it seems very cool!

It was hard to get the dwarfs to respond to my commands though. I also got a crash a couple minutes in when I dug a deep pit then told some dwarfs to go dig somewhere else, while they were in the pit.

Interesting. It could be that they are trying to plan out of the pit, but can't, then repeatedly call the planner over and over.

In DC you will pay your dwarves. They will then have to buy goods from the stockpiles to use them. So you make back a significant portion of the money.
