Forget disbarred lawyers; let's take the crazy up a notch: the media wrongly identified some poor guy as the killer, which led people to angrily storm his Facebook page. Finding that he had liked the fan page for Mass Effect, dozens of people proceeded to leave comments directly blaming the game for the killings.

Thanks, sensationalism.

I wish somebody would go on TV and blame school shootings on bullying and/or psychosis (in this case, obviously psychosis). That seems like it would have happened before video games, prayer in schools, gun control, or everything else. I guess that would make to much sense

As much rage as I feel at people who commit murders for fun, it's always eclipsed by how people respond to such murders.

Everyone's always trying to "do something about it". Which usually means that they pick up and beat up perfectly innocent scapegoats. They make useless policies that look nice, but are a step backwards in reality. Even worse, some people use these tragedies as a catalyst for whatever political agenda they're pushing.

Psychosis is also caused by bullying. Bullies can be quite nasty and create a lot of pent up rage. It's probably worse now, because of online forums and Facebook and stuff. We'd like to think that what we say on the internet stays out of the real world, but for a lot of people, it's as hurtful as real words.

This is why I wrote the "and/or", I agree with you that bullying can have lasting mental effects.

Also, I hate to be "that guy" bitching in an online forum, but I was once attacked because I am a redhead. I didn't even know the guy who attacked me, he just ran up, kicked me, and broke my bike. Older kids on the football team were laughing about it the next day and nobody did shit. So believe me when I say teachers/other students need to take more responsibility about bullying...

I was a victim of bullying as well. Verbal. Happened in front of teachers and they didn't do anything, but the stressful times passed and I live a happy life surrounded by great people.

teachers are pretty bad sometimes at not dealing with bullies, but school bus drivers are the worst. when I was in school I saw kids get the shit kicked out of them by bullies and girls sexually harassed and no bus driver I ever saw would ever stand up and do anything about it.

never mind the effect that kind of negligence has on the victim, but what about the victimizer? I wonder how it feels being able to do something incredibly heinous while adults watch and do nothing.

i'm not defending videogames per se, but blaming killing sprees on videogames or w/e is actually pretty bad because it absolves the killers of guilt. the media likes to portray spree killing as a perverse form of "martyrdom" (because it makes for better news stories), which could serve as a catalyst for other mentally unstable people to do similar things.
