[...] A couple months back I encountered this link called the Game Designer's Bookshelf. Although it doesn't have much of the newer books, a good number of the subjects are still very applicable. http://www.boffo.us/gdw/BookshelfByTopic.htmlthanks guys gonna add this to the first post as soon as i can edit: added to the first post Actually since that last post I found a better resource which includes the previous link on the page. It also has all the books hyperlinked to their Amazon pages. http://manojalpa.net/me/books-for-game-designers/

Someone brought this video to my attention
Guy takes the most basic of shooting games through to something which is still a basic shooting game, but with wow! type effects, by adding one little change at a time over about 30 changes.
Its got some good tips.
you can proably skip the first 5 minutes

I didn't realize podcasts were up for discussion - Idle Thumbs is by far my favorite. It started like 10 years ago as an enthusiast forum, grew into a site for a game critics, started up a podcast that's been off and on since then (the formal articles stopped). The hosts are incredibly articulate, and often have clever ways of interpreting a game's systems. They also make a bunch of dumb jokes. On top of all that, their website now hosts a number of podcasts including Three Moves Ahead which is focused on strategy games and Tone Control where Steve Gaynor interviews various game designers. Can't recommend all these enough. Here's the site: https://www.idlethumbs.net/

Could someone point me to a good podcast / article / post-mortem focusing on combat design? I'm thinking something pretty technical with insights or tips on collisions, damage interrupts, combos, etc.
Anything from Street Figher II, Final Fight, that kind of games would be great.
Thanks in advance!

The guy who programmed SkullGirls has a hour long video on designing fighting games; UI/functionality in the first half and gameplay in the second.

This is a game philosophy channel that started up about a year ago on Youtube, and has crafted some really well made content. Every single one of his videos offers some terrific insight into what makes specific games work on different levels of craftsmanship. There's definitely some good source material here, hope you guys comb through his videos as thoroughly as I have.

Hey, Hello There! I've been curating a Comprehensive Game Design Youtube Playlist recently for the past couple of months. My goal is to accumulate all of Youtube's best Game Design Video Resources into a single Playlist; Organized by subjects and put together in an orderly fashion. As of today: It contains over a thousand videos. (literally) But it's still a work in progress. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHv85eeFcmpKc8czDppdIap2DKm_U4vdqWhat do you guys think? (Also: Do you think I should create a separate thread for this?)
