Let's all suggest Robot Masters we'd love to see, many which will never be in a MM game (for reasons that will become quite obvious as this thread progresses ). Include sketches if you have any! OK, here are a couple of mine: Vinyl Man: The coolest dj robot ever! The level is this giant record shop, and the boss fight takes place on a screen-sized turntable. Of course, his weapon is throwing vinyl, which is called "Beat Slicer" (that is, of course, a wildly un-cool weapon name). Scots Man: He's Scottish, generally in a foul mood, and his weapon is Haggis. Foxy Man: A robot master drag queen diva. The level is a Casino with a boss battle that takes place on some glittery stage. Mega Man gets equipped with "Sexy Secret" which lets him be a drag queen himself, and when using his disguise, enemies won't attack him, they'll instead be infatuated by him (yes, this is really, really horrible).

So like a thread for robots? I don't think that sort of thing really catches on round here.

If this robat in drag, why not just call them drag man? Why foxy? That makes no sense. If you want to call someone foxy man, make them furry or something. GEEEEEZE. I was able to live the dream and create a bunch of mega-man-style bosses recently; I can whole-heartedly recommend the experience However, as a result of this, I don't have much to contribute: I've already said all I wish to say (at least for the moment) in this fine area of human invention.

Shouldn't people be contributing low-res sprites as well?

Fair enough; a few of these were from years ago when I (had no self-respect) and was actually trying to put something together in Game Maker. It was referencing a fox boss in MM Zero 3 who appeared to be a female, but was actually a man in disguise. All the bosses in that game were based off mythology, so when I checked some of the myths on wikipedia I came across that little surprise Also, Drag Man just doesn't sound that great.

I see where you're coming from. It's also borderline offensive. Unless it was a robot drag king, which I guess would be...awesome? It does sound to me more a title that would be befitting of a car-oriented boss though.

Man Man It would be Smithy. The level would be a forest, with lots of trees being felled, and bears. There would be no associated weapon, because you'd never defeat him.

I have to find that Nintendo Power issue where they ran a contest where people submitted ideas for megaman bosses... I'm pretty sure it must be lying somewhere around te internet... Biggerfish: I found this. Anything close to what you were looking for? http://www.ytmnd.com/keyword/Robot%20MasterEdit: Well, not the pics only but close enough...

It never actually made it onto the hallowed pages of Nintendo Power, unfortunately. In fact, I don't even know if it got through the mail. I seem to recall that I didn't have a stamp, so I tried to pay for the postage with some loose change...

Ah, found the issue. For those interested, it's the January 93 special issue, volume 44. Page 76 to 79. The contest was held for the release of Megaman 5. The Japanese held a contest similar to the one NP created and the CapCom team used some of these Japanese designs for the bosses of the fifth chapter of the blue bomber.

I had few reasons to post this here actually but as I red this thread, i just thought some people here could be interested in this. For some month, I am part of a little music label. Its name is Dataglitch, and it's focused on circuit bending, and all kind of 8 bit things. We're currently making a call for contributions for a record. This record will be called "robot masters" and each track will be dedicated to a "fake" mega man boss. Contributing consists on submitting a robot's name, a 100x100 px sprite of it, and a tune. The music is not necessarily supposed to sound like a NES soundtrack, but it should contain lo-fi stuff like circuit bending or at least "real" chip music. This one is one of mine, by the way. The deadline for the submissions is the first of december. We put more details on this page : http://www.dataglitch.org/main.php?page=contrib

Poison Man could be interesting.
He could attack the player with poisonous darts that do damage over time (1 unit of health for every dart in Mega Man every 3 seconds) and try to evade the players attacks.
Tower Man could also be a good idea. He doesn't attack you directly, but you have to chase him up a vertically scrolling tower that you have to climb.
