I've noticed a trend that old games are finding new love in a sort of re-birth. It seemed to have started with Pac-Man CE. Your basic pacman game with added features to make it more accessible to today's gamers. (Online play, compatibility with a system not older than you and not wood paneled, etc). This is also very apparent in other titles like Space Invaders Extreme (Which is so awesome, you should but it now). And today's FP has Gravitron 2.
It also stretches farther with games like castle crashers. Not a direct rebirth but it's a standard beat-em-up in every sense of the definition. Glorified with new awesome touch-yourself graphics and (albeit broken) online play.
I'm really digging this and I really hope it continues. What games would you like to see dusted off and spit shined up for the current gen?
I've always loved Joust, It would make for some pretty rad online play, too.

http://www.helsinki.fi/~korppi/engsumo.htmlThe Fight of the Sumo Hoppers! The game is an awesome physics-based "sumo" game, where you jump all over the level and try to get the opponent hit his head on the ground or out of the tatami. There are a wide variety of levels and you can change/ turn on things like gravity and wind. The only complaints I have are that the game has a lot of buttons and sometimes you can't even get it to work on Windows 98. I haven't tried running it with Dosbox so I don't know if it's possible to play it like that. Here's a small demonstration of the gameplay:

A X-Com UFO Defense remake would be nice.
And Carmaggedon. I feel funny just of thinking all that cars crashing, breaking and flying, with new super 3d graphics and awesome physics.

There's two X-com projects floating around. I don't really want to see a remake, though. The rumored Ken Levine/X-com deal has me excited, though.

I am still waiting for the Microbee revival that will never come. And Carmaggedon. I feel funny just of thinking all that cars crashing, breaking and flying, with new super 3d graphics and awesome physics.
That was supposed top happen with Carmageddon TDR 2000. Stay right away from TDR 2000.

You heard of Maplestory? It's basically the same thing. 2D Platformer MMORPG.
It's actually got a way higher level cap, around 200, and the game's free. But the grinding you start getting forced into around level 70 is ridiculous.
please don't ask me how know this please don't ask me how I know this please don't ask me how I know this.
