So these games you sold were mobile apps made with HTML5? Do you find HTML5 to be the easiest/best way to do this? Did you learn HTML5 for the distinct purpose of making mobile apps?

I wouldn't call them "mobile apps" specifically, but "web apps". They aren't sold in the typical sense, but are more akin to Flash games.

I use HTML5 because my IDE supports it, which also answers your final question.

Why do HTML5 games make more money?  I can't really see any reason why...

For some companies it's about the cross-platform factor, others are just building a portfolio to future-proof their gaming sectors. They have varied reasons, but in most part I believe it's because this is a new technology and the cross-platform aspect is valuable.
