Hey Tiggers,

This year, i'm creating a game design camp. Its a week long camp, and its going to run for two weeks for grade 5-10 and one week grade 1-4.

you can see the site here http://vv.carleton.ca/new/campSites/2010/GameDesign/index.php

With the senior group, we wanted to do some 3d modelling. I wanted to use milkshape, since I love it so, but I want to use something the kids can use at home and milkshape isn't free.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some easy to use, free 3d suites?

I tried the softimage mod tool, which was okay, but a little more cumbersome than I was hoping for. Also, I hate blender.

Download Blender and read some of these tutorials to get yourself started. You'll probably even give up on Milkshape yourself.

Also, this is probably the wrong section for this thread.

If you need no full suite, but only something for subdivision modeling, definitely check out Wings3D. I think it's much more intuitive for what it does than Blender.

don't forget sculptris, which is certainly accessible.

I've had a lot of fun with Wings3D in the past.  (A lot of people like google sketchup as well, but that doesn't do much for me).

Oh this is in Ottawa?! Neato! I don't have much help to offer in your question, just wanted to say that this is a great idea and I'm glad it's happening in my city! I know a bunch of local devs let me know if you need a hand with anything!

For the young kids there is a good model editor too: http://www.planet-plopp.com/

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims:_3d_Software_Guide is a nice guide for 3d software...
