Late entry but I will try to get this done in time.

summary : Year 2012. The end is upon us. An endless giant beetle army slowly chews it's way through your city, devastating everything in its path. Being in control of a lone tank, try to survive the onslaught for as long as you can in this arena shooter.

platform : flash (flashdevelop)

planned features :

* huge arena (at least 10 "screens" accross)
* 5 weapons
* a few powerups
* fully destructible scenery
* random city generator (optional)

more soon...

It's 28th already! so little time...

I've done some progress, although not as much as I would like to.

As of now it is possible to drive a tank in eight directions (but it turns smoothly when you change direction) and turret will aim for your mouse cursor. Game arena has 5000x5000 pixels total and it works smooth as of now(there was some lagging at first but it has been solved). Map is divided into 50x50 tiles which are 100x100 pixels each (there are only 7 basic tiles for now but I hope to make some more if I still have time)

Next on the agenda:
- some more work on collision testing (tank against building)
- let the bullets fly...
- make buildings destructible
- add enemies and test a few ideas for their AI

First actual game screenshot:

Also I put together some background art for menu/highscores screen when I got tired with coding Wink

Unfortunatelly I failed to finish this game on time.

Here's the latest stable build :

http://hotfile.com/dl/139440629/79eb922/beetlegeddonv0_1.exe.html

You can shoot a few beetles (they spawn at the edges of the map) but this lacks a lot of key stuff like buildings(which cause too many problems and had to be removed for now), hud, explosion effects etc. Also you are invulnerable as the beetles haven't learned how to attack you yet...

I will still work on this game but outside of compo.
