We should totally have a thread about this. I'd love to know the significance behind some of the stranger ones on the forum.
I figured I'd take up Terry's suggestion and make this thread. I guess I'll start with mine... Well my handle has to do with my affinity with all things that are Norse culture. The Skalds were the warrior-poets of Scandinavia and Iceland. The number 9 is in there due to the fact that 9 is a very prominent number in Norse mythology (there being Nine Worlds etc...).

I thought it was because you were 100% more shoot-em-up than the leading brand? My nick is just something I've had since middle school; I'm pretty sure at the time I thought it was an improvement over "Zaphod" since s is better than d. But it's also "A term referring to The West implying the gloom of the Underworld and nether-darkness" according to this page.

konjak is the Swedish spelling for cognac, and it's also a flower called "konjac", which looks like a penis and has the word "phallus" in its latin names. a lovely coating of beetlesI only knew about the cognac part when I picked the name.

For a school assignment, I once spelled my last name (Samyn) with a Z. Ever since, I've had a fondness for this letter. So when I started a graphic design company, I called it "Zupergraphyx!". When I needed a web domain, I got zuper.com and shortened the name to "Zuper!". For one of my portfolio interfaces, I designed characters based on the four evangelists. One of them was named Johny, which I considered to be a silly way to spell Johnny.

... Nothing really, I more or less picked something at random when I moved from BBS:es to the interwebs. Seeing as my real name is kind of common it's also what a lot of friends refer to me by IRL, so it kinda stuck.

Hmmm...
'gerbil' because I used to belong to a TFC clan where we all took the names of rodents. (We made the "clan" at school, when we were all like 14, and it never got off the ground.)
'shiny' because of another running joke with my friends, we all used to play a lot of Necromunda and I always used to have a character called "Shiny Bill" (who was represented by a shiny unpainted model).
so, yeah, I sort of mashed'em up and got shinygerbil

Gravious is a character in one of my favorite books, the Wikipedia page does a better job than me at describing it: " As a host to living beings, the Sleeper Service was home to a variety of flora and fauna from different parts of the galaxy, hosting all within an approximation of their natural habitats; the only two sentient beings aboard were Dajeil Gelian, ex-Contact officer and recluse, and Gravious, a sentient bird planted as a spy within the Sleeper Service two decades before the story starts, coding its messages on bacteria left on Stored bodies that were due to be offloaded. However, its use as a spy was laughable - the Sleeper was always aware of the messages, allowing only those that would not pose any threat to itself to pass." For anyone interested, He's a Crow. Crows are bad-ass.

Nothing. It came up when I needed a surname for a character, and I swear it sounded better in Portuguese. I'll probably just start using my name one of these days. These days.

My girlfriend, who worked in a pet store at the time, told me that hamsters were by far the most vicious, foul tempered, animal she had to deal with. So I changed all my gaming handles to "Death Hamster Mark 4". Typing that name in to a forum login screen takes too long so I shortened it to "hamster".
I have never owned a hamster nor do I plan on getting one.
