Title: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Mr. Yes on June 28, 2010, 02:23:10 PM (http://famicase.com/10/softs/50.jpg) 8:Capsule (http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/7654/screeniejw.png) DOWNLOAD (http://thrompd.hinchy.us/games/8Capsule.zip) From the readme: Quote Do not pass 8. I mean, yeah I understand it's hard not to, but try at least. If you can't help yourself, whatever. I'm just saying. It might cause you problems. If you end up completely ignoring that, here's some instructions for cleaning up your mess: Move with A and D, or the left/right arrow keys. To select an object, left click. To throw a selected object, right click in some direction. The further you click, the faster the object will go. F4 goes fullscreen, that might make it easier to select some things. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Mr. Yes on June 29, 2010, 05:47:55 PM I've been working on music, mostly, so far. I don't have any screenshots or mockups or anything, but here's an animation:
(http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/5505/greatfuck.gif) His name is Greatfuck. He is a brother of the 8:Sound (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=3345.0) character, whose name is also Greatfuck. They do not understand basic orders. If you tell them not to pass 8, they will pass it. They are obnoxious assholes and will not listen to a word you say. >:( While I try to calm down, listen to some music (http://thrompd.hinchy.us/music/capsule1.mp3). Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Mr. Yes on July 01, 2010, 06:50:41 PM Thanks guys!
I've uploaded a video here, it's really basic right now but I'm making some fun progress. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueRBbNNUUL4 Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Rob Lach on July 01, 2010, 07:28:21 PM The style is gorgeous. It's kind of retro with a very modern edge.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Melly on July 01, 2010, 08:15:14 PM Loving the art too.

Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: miconazole on July 02, 2010, 04:21:31 AM I really like how this looks. I'll be watching this project :V
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Mr. Yes on July 03, 2010, 07:07:06 PM Still working on level one (game will only have two short levels) but this is coming along very nicely. It's been a while since I've made a game but this has been smooth for me. I have the game pretty much figured out at this point and now I'm just thinking of puzzles as I go along.
Basically you solve the puzzles by throwing objects around at other objects. It sounds simple as hell because it is. But there seems to be a lot I can do with this, so I'm having some fun with it. At the end of each level you fight a boss, and though I haven't started on any of those yet, I can imagine how they'll work now and it'll hopefully be fun putting them in there. I guess I'll post another screenshot while I'm at it. There's not a lot new but I've been tweaking things. (http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/9238/screenxav.png) Also, I appreciate the comments so far. You guys are beautiful. EDIT: I'll also add that, while it's not clear what the hell this game has got to do with time capsules, it will be soon!!! Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Inanimate on July 03, 2010, 10:31:57 PM This game is so beautiful man. So beautiful.
:tearsofjoy: Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Melly on July 05, 2010, 12:54:48 PM I agree, the art style is coming off amazing.

Still working on this shit! Been losing some motivation but I've really gotta get going if I want to finish this. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: deathtotheweird on July 22, 2010, 11:33:45 PM it really does look fantastic, great work. :-*
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Melly on July 23, 2010, 11:56:01 AM It's looking delicious. Please finish!
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: J. R. Hill on July 26, 2010, 04:04:20 PM It's looking delicious. Please finish! Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule Post by: Mr. Yes on August 07, 2010, 01:13:46 PM Done! Download here. (http://thrompd.hinchy.us/games/8Capsule.zip)
Honestly there are probably really stupid bugs in here because I'm rushing this. But I didn't find anything too horrible, so here it is. I have become really tired of this game, there was gonna be a lot more but I just couldn't work on it. That said, I'm still proud of what I got done, and it DOES have an ending and stuff. So it's complete, just not as big as I wanted. Try it out and leave some beautiful feedback!! Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: J. R. Hill on August 07, 2010, 03:42:53 PM This is the first game I'm playing when I get off work tonight. I don't even know what genre it is, I guess I am just judging AGBIC, lol.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Mr. Yes on August 07, 2010, 05:20:19 PM Thanks.
Anybody who has already downloaded it, re-download it because there's a major issue in the one I put up before (it's an older one and I forgot to replace it in the zip file when I made the change). Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: J. R. Hill on August 07, 2010, 09:44:12 PM Oops I destroyed the universe.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: deathtotheweird on August 07, 2010, 09:59:13 PM I really like the music and the artwork. First level seemed pretty reasonable, but the second one is just >:( edit: Never mind, it wasn't that hard..I wasn't paying attention enough. Having just finished it, I have to say I really enjoyed it. It's so short and I want more. Shame you lost motivation Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 07, 2010, 10:21:51 PM I'm not quite sure what happened but I enjoyed it.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: ness io kain on August 07, 2010, 11:18:22 PM I haven't been able to figure out how to finish the second level. I turned one of the pillar things into a... monster... a thing with a face? And I couldn't figure out the other one (on the right at the top). It's hard to describe; haha...
Anyway, I like the music and the graphics; the whole thing is just very stylish. I also like how the objective is not really explained. It was frustrating at first, but it was cool just figuring everything out... Until I got stuck on the second level, anyway. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 07, 2010, 11:57:58 PM I too am stuck on the second. >:(
Must finish! EDIT: Finished! ;D ... :epileptic: Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Johnny Panic on August 08, 2010, 12:53:35 PM This is a wonderful game. I especially like the ending, with the BEAUTIFUL voices.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Mr. Yes on August 09, 2010, 09:14:04 AM :)
Thanks guys! I didn't actually think the second level would be so tough for most people, but at least it's not too much trouble. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 09, 2010, 09:31:19 AM It's pretty clever, and once you figure it out you go "Now why didn't I think of THAT?".
The ending is terrifying. :epileptic: Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: ortoslon on August 09, 2010, 12:26:02 PM playthrough http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7Z3niYXm7A
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Hinchy on August 09, 2010, 07:23:16 PM I love how a few people are assuming there is some sort of pretentious hidden meaning behind all this crazy weird shit (as opposed to it just being crazy weird shit for the sake of it).
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Johnny Panic on August 09, 2010, 08:04:24 PM I love how a few people are assuming there is some sort of pretentious hidden meaning behind all this crazy weird shit (as opposed to it just being crazy weird shit for the sake of it). Yes, people sometimes seem too concerned with meaning, sometimes taking it to ridiculous extremes. They will read meaning into almost anything, and will be upset if this imaginary meaning seems hard to find. They forget that there are many other things that are worthwhile, like creating something that inspires a certain mood or emotion, or creates an interesting atmosphere. It seems like the creator of this game had those things in mind more than any sort of meaning. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Zaphos on August 09, 2010, 10:09:56 PM I got to the last triangle in the second level, then got stuck and ended up watching ortolson's playthrough instead :-[
I love the aesthetic and weirdness of it, but maybe a bit more feedback or motion on the interactive things or something would help clue people in ... Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Rob Lach on August 10, 2010, 02:10:54 AM Excellent
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: belbeeno on August 10, 2010, 04:25:13 AM The music sounds a little like Earthbound which is a very good thing.

Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Oddball on August 10, 2010, 06:30:28 AM This didn't work for me on Windows 7. :( It says I have the wrong version of DirectX, but everything is bang up to date. :shrug2: Gonna try it when I can get hold of a different machine.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: badvibration on August 10, 2010, 01:54:04 PM I thoroughly enjoyed this whimsical experience.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: ThetaGames on August 10, 2010, 04:53:26 PM I really enjoyed this - I'll admit, I watched ortoslon's video a bit when I got stuck, but it was only because I wanted to finish. It was a truly innovative, surreal puzzle game.
The music was also very well-done; in the second level especially it provided a subtle prelude to the end atmosphere (which, I agree with Melly, was terrifying). I am basing my knowledge of the ending off of the video, however - when I actually played the game and beat the third level, the boss continually exploded and it never went to the "BEAUTY" screen. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Mr. Yes on August 10, 2010, 05:57:35 PM ;D
Thank you guys, you are all sparkling wonders. And thanks for the playthrough video, ortoslon! Beautiful. I am basing my knowledge of the ending off of the video, however - when I actually played the game and beat the third level, the boss continually exploded and it never went to the "BEAUTY" screen. Did you happen to download the game soon after I first uploaded it? Because I found that problem a while after and fixed it. If that's not the case, then I'm not sure what could be causing that. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: belbeeno on August 10, 2010, 07:02:06 PM Did you happen to download the game soon after I first uploaded it? Because I found that problem a while after and fixed it. If that's not the case, then I'm not sure what could be causing that. It could be the torrent version of the game, which was created almost immediately after Melly closed the competition. Seems batching the game is proving to be more problems than it's worth. >: Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: ThetaGames on August 10, 2010, 07:47:05 PM I am basing my knowledge of the ending off of the video, however - when I actually played the game and beat the third level, the boss continually exploded and it never went to the "BEAUTY" screen. Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: VinceTwelve on August 11, 2010, 09:37:22 AM Finally had some time to play some of these and this one blew me away. Loved the style and the interaction. The puzzles were fair. I didn't get stuck on the second level for more than a minute. Excellent stuff all around! Beautiful!
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: UltimateWalrus on August 11, 2010, 10:30:56 AM I really like this. It's a cool puzzle mechanic... finding out the rules and intricacies behind an abstract world. The look and feel was really good too. I kinda wish it was longer.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: s0 on August 12, 2010, 01:08:26 AM I loved figuring out how stuff works. You have a great talent for making far-fetched solutions seems like they're logical and obvious. It was almost like dream logic type of experience. Great graphics, music and ending too. My only complaint is that the last pales a bit in comparison to the others in terms of gameplay.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: guille on August 12, 2010, 04:17:47 AM This is pretty rad shit, the visuals and the audio are pretty cool. I like the "figure it on your own" attitude to a degree, I think at times this takes it too far, yet it's so charming you don't wanna give up easily.
If it had some sort of subtle hint system when the game detects you have been stuck for so long, that would help. Like those match 3 games where the pieces you need to match shine when you haven't scored for some time. Still, this is pretty cool and original. One of the best :coffee: Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: LiquidAsh on August 16, 2010, 05:15:35 PM This is one of my favorite entries. I do think there could be a few more clues to help the player differentiate background from the objects they need to interact with to progress through the level. I do like the abstract visual style.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] 8:Capsule [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 23, 2010, 07:47:25 PM 8:Capsule has won the Phat Beats badge for being one of the winners of the Best Audio poll. Congratulations.
