Dolphin Island 2
Rise of the Crustacean

Description:
You are Ruby, the rough Dolphin Combatant. Dolphin Island is being invaded by the Evil Crustacean Overlord and his army of fierce shrimps.
Use your sword to fight evil, save Dolphin Island, and surf the dolphin!

made some music to get me in the right mood for pixeling - this will be done NES style.

Glad you like it :3 and the expertise in Sound was something I developed over time. Sure, I am a musical person, still, my first compositions sounded like crap - real crap o.o

anyways I worked some on the GFX, here's a mockup:

Note that the player character as well as the crabs theoreticaly consist of 2 sprites layered above one another. Hardly possible in that amount on the real hardware, but meehh~
Tiles are 4 colors per 16x16 tile.

Also, those crabs looks amazing.  Not a huge fan of the mixed perspective between the dolphin and Ruby, though.

fixed it a bit - not perfect, but otherwise the whole sprite would become a messy splosh of pixels... and it's already messy >.>

Shoot em Up - except you don't shoot - you slash! :3 you'll also be able to slash away bullets ^^

Any power-ups? Perhaps instead of powering you up, they power your dolphin up?

No you can't. There's that green bar below the health, that's your Stamina - mash those buttons and you'll run out of steam very quickly.The trick is to time your attacks - If Stamina drops to 0 you won't be able to slash again for 3 seconds, till it is @ 100% again, leaving you vulnerable.

as for powerups I'm not quite sure - I realy want it be quite simple in that department, most likely there will only be 3: Bomb+, Timed double slash power+, and a life+.

For controls it will most likely use 2 buttons for actions,"S" and "D". "S" for slash, you can slash in all 8 directions. You can also Hold and release "S", to unleash a large blade swipe. It travels roughly half the screen to the front. The other button is for the bomb, well actualy it's the Dolphin Destruktor Lazor. The dolphin and Ruby will be pushed upwards, closer to the camera, allowing for a better look on things, while "Sparky" unleashes his lazor... yes, I just named the dolphin Sparky.   :durr:

oh yea, and it is no question, that it shall be punishing hard >:3

Sorry to say this, guys - but I will most likely withdraw from this compo, because of lack of time - or better said, because of time spent on more important projects.

If I can squeeze in some time, I might do a simple prototype, but most likely, I will just work on this outside of the comp and make a fun little endless game out of it, as I realy do like the concept - it will most likely just pop up at the forums at some random time, in playable form.
