Title: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Dugan on July 05, 2010, 09:25:23 AM SLOTH
Download http://tikipod.com/AGBIC/sloth.zip (http://tikipod.com/AGBIC/sloth.zip) How to play In the menus - B to select, Z to go back and L/R direction keys. Ingame - tap B to move, UP/DOWN direction keys to change gear. Manual mode sloth has a higher top speed than auto sloth, but remember to drop into a low gear when encountering mossy vines. Audio credits The awesome audio was sourced from the assemblee competition Pt1, and was created by `Atuun`, `feeblethemighty` and `John_Nesky`. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH Post by: oyog on July 05, 2010, 10:01:29 AM I think the slower you move the more algae will grow in your fur and algae will attract moths and at the end of the level/game you get algae and moth bonus points. ;D

I left out "it would be amusing if" between "I think" and "the slower..." Oh well, that'll teach me to post in a hurry. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH Post by: Dugan on July 26, 2010, 02:37:03 AM current status - working but needs tidying and a few bits hooking up.

Otherwise, I love the aesthetic, even if the gameplay isn't my cup of tea. The speed at which the days go by really sealed the deal for me. Is your sloth always static? Tired of switching to low gear just to get a fresh mango? Well, try new MaxiSlothâ„¢! Guaranteed to fix the most persistent of Sloth Rust! Order now and we'll throw in two free sloths, guaranteed! Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Dugan on August 05, 2010, 02:05:58 PM mmm - MaxiSloth....
Hiya - when using manual sloth, get your revs up first with the low gear before switching up to high, that should fix any motivational issues with your sloth. Glad you like it! Its just a small joke game, but has been good coding practice for me. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: J. R. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: SirNiko on August 09, 2010, 06:13:55 PM This game is absolutely hilarious. The graphics, the concept, the delivery. The pixel art is actually far above and beyond fantastic, that alone is worth the price of admission.
I hate the button mashing gameplay. I want to use my right hand to mash B, and my left to shift. I find myself crossing my arms to do this. Mashing Space instead would be even better. I really don't want to mash the button at all. I'd prefer something like Drag Race on the 2600, where you simply had to shift at the right time or suffer a catastrophe, no mashing required. The result is a game that I want to play in concept, but not in execution. The top-hat sloth is fantastic. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Dugan on August 10, 2010, 01:55:42 AM Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah I agree the button mashing :handanykey: is a bit hellish. I like your idea of just gear shifting, much more relaxing. That could would over a network of branches where you could steer (lane shift) too. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: deathtotheweird on August 11, 2010, 04:15:05 PM kinda weird that you and oddball used the same track for your games
I like the graphics and presentation but it isn't very fun. Kinda hurts my hand to keep mashing on the keys. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 11, 2010, 05:17:26 PM I believe they may have taken the track from one of the Assemblee threads.

Kinda hurts my hand to keep mashing on the keys. Yah, Melly is correct, I sourced the audio from the creators in the Assemblee competition - audio credits are by the game description. Apologies for any inflicted hand/joint injuries :beg: Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: gingerbeardman on August 12, 2010, 03:26:07 PM No slooooooooooooooooooooooooouch!
Love the look. Would have like to have seen a few more surprises. Nice work though. Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 13, 2010, 10:10:45 PM Hahaha, well I had to laugh at the Manual Sloth. ;D
Fun little game you got here. Very charming and amusing (and finger-hurting :wtf:). Not much else to say. Good job.:handthumbsupR: Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Soulliard on August 22, 2010, 08:07:32 AM Those must be the slowest bees in the world.
Anyway, this is clearly a joke game, so there's not much to say about it, really. It was pretty much what I expected, but nothing more. I find the choice of using the B button a little odd, since it's a bit out of the way. ... I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that no one took this cartridge and made a game about a Megatherium. Ah well... Title: Re: [AGBIC] SLOTH [FINISHED] Post by: Dugan on August 23, 2010, 10:12:38 AM Those must be the slowest bees in the world. they actually move super fast, its a strobe effect (like a spoked wheel spinning) that makes them seem slow ;) ;) If I had more time it would have been fun to make a better game, but I didn't so instead set myself the task of something simple but finished (I hate not finishing things). |
