Nice sprite work and music, and yea you cant go wrong with vanishing blocks. Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 07, 2010, 09:45:11 PM Haha, it's a classic 2d platforming trope!
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: deathtotheweird on August 07, 2010, 09:46:03 PM the player sprite is a great interpretation of the cover art. :handthumbsupR:
and i love the mega man style vanishing blocks :-[ crazy how both monkey freak games had them. Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 08, 2010, 12:09:20 AM Oh god vanishing blocks.
VANISHING BLOCKS EVERYWHERE. Why are you so cruel. Also game's pretty great. ;D:handthumbsupR: Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Xion on August 08, 2010, 01:14:08 AM sweet. got 3:21:08 first time through. Think I only died once or twice. Definitely gonna be playing again for a better time, though.

xP Great game, though. I think this is the straightest interpretation of a cartridge I have seen so far. You translated the art into pixels excellently; it looks great. I like the music, too. It's short, but you didn't have a lot of time, so that's understandable. Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 09, 2010, 09:44:54 AM Thanks for the compliments on the art! I'm actually really interested in adding a few more levels and working on implementing some of the features I had to cut to make it into the compo. I figure there's a workable structure for a fun time attack game in here.

:mockangry: Quite stylish. :gentleman: Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 09, 2010, 08:52:39 PM Dude.
Your game title on the first post reads Ascenso. Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 09, 2010, 09:12:12 PM Ha, that's what I get for lazily copying-pasting the format for the first post. Fixed!
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: PKBT on August 10, 2010, 06:47:14 PM Got 4 minutes something on my first try. My second try got me 02:02:23 however.
I love the style. Great game! Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: JaJitsu on August 11, 2010, 12:53:44 AM In lvl 5 it's impossible for me to jump up even to the banana, so I couldn't get past that point.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 11, 2010, 08:32:31 AM Hey JaJitsu, how well does the game run on your computer? If you hit the tilde (~) key and console should roll down and you'll get a framerate number in the corner. You should be able to jump up precisely a little over 3 blocks high so the banana should be in reach.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: David Pittman on August 11, 2010, 07:04:45 PM Good stuff, nice and polished. I might try speedrunning this after I've played some more games.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: PsySal on August 11, 2010, 08:27:36 PM Uh-oh, I had the same problem as @Jajitsu, can't get past "TIMING". I did hit the tilde to bring up the console, and it seems to be around 60fps, occasionally dipping to 40fps or so.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Mike Lee on August 12, 2010, 01:31:06 AM Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I figured out the issue with the jumping and uploaded a new version of the game (along with an additional stage at the end). Let me know if that fixes the issue!
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Melly on August 12, 2010, 09:42:47 PM I still really like the art on this. Very fun-looking and expressive.
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: guille on August 19, 2010, 10:31:29 AM Nice sound and graphics, clean design, little fun game! I just don't like up arrow for jumping ??? also I always hated this kind of timed blocks on Mega Man games  because, well, I'm impatient and I think it would be better if you didn't have to wait that long for the blocks to appear/disappear, but that's probably a death wish. :biglaff:
Title: Re: [AGBIC] Monkey Freak: Ape-sanity [FINISHED] Post by: Oddball on August 21, 2010, 08:53:54 AM This is a good, solid entry. The graphics are nice and fit the game/cart well. New elements are introduced at a good rate and the difficulty curve is pretty much spot on. Good work.
