Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 21, 2011, 12:23:22 PM This is getting pretty complicated.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: ChevyRay on January 21, 2011, 12:28:29 PM Ivan clearly doesn't realize that he's up against me. But I'll let him keep dreaming.
Good luck and all, but I'm gonna have to win this compo. 8) So whatcha makin? Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Hempuliā½ on January 21, 2011, 12:52:02 PM ChevyRay and Ivan, prepare to admit your defeat! :handshakeL: >:D
It's hard to say anything yet but count me interested. Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 21, 2011, 01:56:05 PM (http://www.ivansafrin.com/crap/versus01.png)

Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 21, 2011, 02:16:50 PM It's my own engine, which I am perpetually about to release, but this should be a pretty serious test of it. Yes, it's C++, though most of the game code is written in LUA.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Inanimate on January 21, 2011, 04:41:12 PM That is the second most awesome laser tutu I've ever seen.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 21, 2011, 04:53:36 PM Tutu!?
Why, I'll show you!! Some issues with polygon division still, but starting to make some progress. Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: godatplay on January 21, 2011, 08:13:28 PM Ehhhhhxcellent. Can't wait to see that slicing in action :-*
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Renton on January 22, 2011, 12:57:31 AM Dammit Safrin, stop hogging all the 1st places.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 22, 2011, 10:16:54 AM A video of my tests so far. Trying it out with more complex meshes (~5000 triangles):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uFxCTWXWsc No mesh capping yet, but I'm getting there. The game is going to be Die by the Sword, Bushido Blade and that new Metal Gear game that I am ripping off so hard, all mixed together and networked. :wizard: Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: goldbuick on January 22, 2011, 10:55:44 AM I have to say that I am impressed with the dynamic slice action!
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: moi on January 22, 2011, 11:55:31 AM ow mang, slicing meshes is awesome, why isn't that in more games?
Also: can't you like generate a face where the mesh is cut? I know it sounds very complex but it's not very pretty seing invisible parts in the middle Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: kavs on January 22, 2011, 12:07:21 PM Impressive tech! How is the gameplay going to work? Players chop eachother up like watermelons?
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: J. R. Hill on January 22, 2011, 12:18:23 PM Or maybe players are watermelons.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 22, 2011, 12:54:14 PM Also: can't you like generate a face where the mesh is cut? I know it sounds very complex but it's not very pretty seing invisible parts in the middle Yeah, that's the next and somewhat more complicated part. I'm getting some stuff working already though. Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Impossible on January 22, 2011, 01:39:18 PM Looking good Ivan! If you actually pull this off it will be awesome. I've been wanting to see a decent Bushido Blade style fighter for a long time.
Yeah, that's the next and somewhat more complicated part. I'm getting some stuff working already though. I hate dealing with geometry so I'd probably do something cheesy with clip planes and the stencil buffer. Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Daniel Eddeland on January 22, 2011, 03:04:30 PM METAL GEAR!? </snake voice> 8)
When I first saw that watermelon video whenever it was released, I was impressed. Now you're doing the same thing (kinda) in an indie-game competition, so I'm even more impressed! The youtube video didn't let me down, and I wouldn't be surprised if you did win. Keep it up, and more importantly: more screens and videos!! Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: increpare on January 22, 2011, 03:10:44 PM pfft you call that a sword? Silly straight-edges subdivision. I have a deadly Banach-Tarski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banach%E2%80%93Tarski_paradox) blade. Let me demonstrate it on this panda:
before slicing: :panda: after slicing: :panda: :panda: Far more impressive. Hope you're having fun, though! :) Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: LiquidAsh on January 22, 2011, 04:28:58 PM It looks like this is coming together nicely. I'm looking forward to chopping lots of stuff. Chop, chop.

You can turn off avatars from your profile page. That's what I do.Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: SundownKid on January 22, 2011, 08:43:53 PM "A katana? Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Fluff on January 23, 2011, 08:31:20 AM I can see it now...
Super Cooking Adventure! "Chopping vegtables has never been this fun!" Featuring:
* Food not for human consumption. Also: This is really interesting from a technical standpoint. When you figure out how you're going to generate the geometry for the new faces (assuming that's what you do) we'd love to hear how you do it! Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Pixelgent on January 25, 2011, 02:18:01 AM I have no idea if this is allowed or if your making your own models or what but i love this and would like to let you use my ninja model if you so wish.
Not the greatest uv's in the world but they work, HERE (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2478466/ninja_sdk.rar) it is. (http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t127/willy-wilson/ninja-sdk.png) I can also release the texture for you if use like, let me know. (http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t127/willy-wilson/Capture-76.png) Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Ivan on January 25, 2011, 07:54:22 AM Wow, thank you! I saw your ninja before and really liked it!!
I am trying out a couple of different looks for the game right now. One of them your ninja fits perfectly and the other one (untextured and a bit higher polycount one), it's a bit out of place in. If i use the former, I would love to use your model! Speaking of which, I'll have some more details in the next couple of days. Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: Greender on January 25, 2011, 09:23:18 AM Looking amazing so far. I'm expecting a very fun game as always Ivan.
Title: Re: Project "Let's Win Another Compo" Post by: TobiasW on January 25, 2011, 10:04:31 AM pfft you call that a sword? Silly straight-edges subdivision. I have a deadly Banach-Tarski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banach%E2%80%93Tarski_paradox) blade. Let me demonstrate it on this panda: No, don't do it! Swords are dangerous, they'll fucking cut you wide open (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_RpbaUU7NI)! Speaking of which, I'll have some more details in the next couple of days. Looking forward to it, looks cool so far!Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 25, 2011, 11:36:11 PM Started modelling some characters:
(http://www.ivansafrin.com/crap/redsun1.png) Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: J. R. Hill on January 25, 2011, 11:40:49 PM Will it be shaded like that? Cause that is beautiful.
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 25, 2011, 11:44:20 PM Yep! I've been falling in love with flat shading lately. There is going to be environment lighting, but it wont actually shade the model. I have some nice shader tricks up my sleeve :)
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: ink.inc on January 26, 2011, 12:22:46 AM With all these people doing 3d, I'm feelin' really insecure. :'(
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: medieval on January 26, 2011, 04:27:31 AM The image is broken :(
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 26, 2011, 05:58:15 AM Ewps, sorry, forgot to pay my hosting. Should be a-ok now.
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: godatplay on January 28, 2011, 09:00:28 AM Yay, another one joins the flat shading fan club :) You know that plus careful use of subtle gradients would be pretty awesome :-*
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 28, 2011, 11:16:48 PM Made some modelling progress today.
Keeping under 2K polys still and no textures. (http://www.ivansafrin.com/crap/redsun2.png) Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Inanimate on January 28, 2011, 11:25:30 PM I think it looks amazing without textures, but I'm sure they'll continue to astound.
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 28, 2011, 11:27:31 PM I think I'm going to try to keep it without any textures.
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 29, 2011, 02:57:17 PM chugging along.

In other news, I replaced my shoddy rig with a more professional one using the amazing Rigify add-on that comes with the latest Blender beta. (http://www.ivansafrin.com/crap/redsun4.png) Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Ivan on January 30, 2011, 03:36:25 PM Messing around with the new rig

Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: unsilentwill on January 30, 2011, 04:03:27 PM That is amazing, cel-shaded is the new pixel without a doubt. Makes me want to see phish's chainsamuari in a duel with him.
Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Maikel_Ortega on January 30, 2011, 04:15:11 PM Awesome, as every screenshot before. I want to see silly poses!
Everyone is passing to 3D, and I still haven't finished a game. :tired: Title: Re: RED SUN 【赤い太陽】 Post by: Will Vale on January 30, 2011, 04:15:43 PM That's gorgeous Ivan, I really like the lo-fi/hi-fi combination of the flat shading and bloom.
