This is my entry.
It´s about to fight randomly generated monster-faces.
The "ship" and the amount of monster-face attacks is also randomly generated.

Gosh; more flesh-toned phallic imagery  ::)

(looks nice though!)

It´s not even supposed to look like flesh but thanks anyway.
The game will probably going to change color between the monster-faces in the finished version.

That's the most phallic spaceship design I've seen since the Klik & Play 100-in-1 Pirate Kart's "This Game Stars My Penis".

I like the idea of randomly generated faces though.

Haha, I didn´t even realize that myself. However, the turret is changed into something more child-friendly now.  :P

You needn't change it for us, you know. After all, this is the forum that brought you Giant Naked Men.

The game is able to generate 22000 different monster-faces right now.

The game currently generates a monster-face out of:
-Bodies: 20
-Eyes: 11
-Noses: 10
-Mouths: 10

There will probably be more bodies, eyes, noses and mouths in the finished version. Maybe also some mustaches...

I think I´ll not even add mustaches into the game :O
I made two mustaches to see what it was going to look like. You know what? It was looking like shit! And often the mustache overlapped either the nose or the mouth; not very good.

Maybe I´ll add something else instead.
I´ve also added some eyes, noses and mouths. So now there is:

Bodies:20
Eyes:15
Noses:15
Mouths:15

And still counting...

Glad to hear this isn't dead.

I personally think the odd mustache wouldn't go amiss... you know, as long as you didn't overdo it...

Quick comments...
The teardrops don't seem to do anything significantly different than the skin fleck attacks, even though they're slightly faster. The score counter is a bit distracting. I thought it was a pickup the first time I saw it, then subconsciously thought it was a lives counter the next time. I'd love to see the faces emote more in-game, even if it's just occasional minor rotation or resizing without extra animations. From the screenshots, I thought that the skin flecks would actually deform the face as they're shed, although that's a lot to ask this late. I like the style and the music, and the game itself is pretty fun. I love the transition to each new face. (Got 6 kills after a few tries, mostly by stockpiling missiles on the first few faces.)

Ha ha, homing teeth :D

It's addictive as hell. Can we pleeeeease have an extra-ugly megaboss every five heads? You could just generate a head with 3-5 eyes and 1-2 mouths and scale it x2.

Oh and blinking eyes and talking mouths could really add to te "cuteness" of the heads :D

Beta updated with blinking eyes and faster tear-bombs.

Title: Re: Loboton (beta)
Post by: nenad on May 31, 2008, 08:08:25 AM
Yay for the eyes!
I've managed to nail down 9 of the sad fuckers so far :D

Imo the player ship should be made about 25% smaller for easier bullet evading. Now some deaths still feel as they are not my fault. That's generally a thing you want to eradicate from any game.

Plays great though!

The way they spray bread-shit everywhere when they die is really annoying. I don't think I died once except from that, and every time it was impossible to avoid.

Other than that, though, nice game, and love the music.

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: grickmin on June 02, 2008, 03:03:02 AM
After some tries it isn´t even hard to avoid the spraying skin-flecks. It´s easy to avoid them when you kinda know when it´s going to start spraying.

Glad you liked it!

This game is just great! I've had a lot of fun playing it. Hope you will continue your work on it after the competition.
Feature suggestion :-X Add some kind of shield (which could be collected like missiles), because sometimes there are really tough situations, especially when you kill another face right over you  ::)

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: nenad on June 04, 2008, 11:24:00 PM
I'm working my way towards 50.

There's a kind of dominant strategy you can use. Since heads cannot harm you directly it's a good idea to camp on the top of the screen most of the time. That way you only need to worry about the homing teeth. Play predominantly with missiles and come down for short periods only when you need to grab a missile pack or outmaneuver a swarm of teeth. And as a general hint - always cross head's path above it. Doing it below, there's a great deal of chance you'll get a bullet.

Again - excellent game!

I used that technique too! If it´s allowed now or after the voting, I´m going to make the player-ship die when colliding with faces.

Btw, when you drive in the border, your speed increases. Is it a bug, or a very useful feature? :)

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: grickmin on June 07, 2008, 04:47:21 AM
Well, it´s programmed like this: When ship collides with border, Stop ship. So basically the player just stops when hitting the border.

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: Asesino on June 08, 2008, 02:04:55 AM
Huh? Then why my speed doubles? :)

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: grickmin on June 08, 2008, 07:05:49 AM
The speed increases when moving while touching the border. Beside that, I don´t know any time when the speed is faster.

BTW! I updated the game so that it´s harder to "cheat".

Wow, this game is addictive!

It’s simple and enjoyable. I like the variety in the random faces (and little animations), the minimal graphical style and having one life. It was very easy to learn how to play. I never felt that I died unfairly. My highest score was 6, from about 10 games. No bugs encountered.

Possible improvements:

Shift was an odd choice of confirm button, because my initial reaction was to type Shift+R for the first letter of my name, so I ended up with a blank name.

It would be nice if the current game was highlighted on the high score table.

Maybe splitting it into levels would help it feel more like a game, because the player gets to feel like they’re progressing and the game could be winnable. Perhaps each level could have a colour, to clearly define it.

I think I´ll maybe add those things you suggested, in the final version.

Yay another shmup with random elements.  the different faces are funny and the gameplay quite enjoyable in its simplicity and tough difficulty that keeps you coming back just to get one enemy further than last.

Title: Re: Loboton (finished)
Post by: twohalf on June 20, 2008, 10:28:36 AM
I can't decide if this is my favorite game or my most frustrating because it's definitely the one I've replayed the most but my reasons for it was just to get to a higher score because I was so frustrated by how I died for stupid reasons...
Pretty cool game though otherwise... I agree with the other person, it seems like the skin should shed and deform as you shoot the boss. And the teeth are kind of tough to see. =)

Nice!  I liked the music and the color scheme quite a lot.  I found myself having trouble seeing the white enemy tracking bullet things, but otherwise it was straight-forward and intuitive.
Cheers,
