Wow, I sit around for ages writing a thread for my game "Conway's game of Suicide Attacks", and then you beat me to it with only a few minutes with another Life game!  :D

At least I'm relieved to see that we have a different takes on it! Though I must say your game looks and feel pretty nifty indeed - you should post some screenshots!

Nice game so far. I was a little wary of the turn-based gameplay, but it turns it into more of a puzzle game feel, which works well. It definitely has potential to be a fun game. Heck, Kenta Cho made a kickass shmup (http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/flash/la2/index.html) based on the game of life.

It wouldn't be procedural, but maybe a mission/puzzle mode might be fun with this engine. Like, starting with stable shapes, then oscillatory shapes, then crazy chaos with a narrow subset of solutions.

Oh, and feel free to introduce yourself: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=45.0

Could be a good base for a more complex game.
