Title: Web hosting Post by: Paolo Victor on July 12, 2008, 01:07:02 PM Hello, saucers
Lately, I've been looking for a good web host. Unfortunatelly, almost all host I've come across have either: a) Glowing reviews on obscure sites that look like scams/traps b) Lots of unhappy costumers with spine-chilling horror stories So, I'm trying to get opinions from slightly more reliable sources (i.e. you). Do you know/use any nice web hosting services? Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Decipher on July 12, 2008, 01:25:55 PM if you can afford $20/month i ultimately suggest media temple (http://mediatemple.com) otherwise, godaddy (http://godaddy.com) is also okayish, on the very worst case find a cheapo p3 server and host from home if you trust your connection. the last case works for me, so it's not impossible :)
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: december on July 12, 2008, 03:10:15 PM I dig eleven2, but a lot of that has to do with being able to get tech support over AIM. And it's not too expensive. But they have been hit by hack attacks a few times since I signed on with them. Less so than dreamhost though.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Alex May on July 12, 2008, 03:27:34 PM I use Dreamhost and love it.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Miya on July 12, 2008, 04:43:53 PM could save you some money on dreamhost, just ask
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Corpus on July 12, 2008, 04:56:17 PM I wrote this several hours ago, but the forums weren't letting me post at the time (some sort of error kept showing up):
(mt) are the ultimate choice, but require many monies. I'm on Dreamhost, and they're excellent, especially if you use a code(I think I used DH3). I've effectively got 2-year hosting with 4 domains, what might as well be unlimited bandwidth and storage space for most people's purposes (they also increase every month you're a Dreamhost user), S S H access and support for everything from the standard PHP to Ruby to Python for ~£80. There are going to be horror stories with any host, because nobody has 100% uptime. Just, uh, pretend that was well-written. EDIT: Okay, I realised that it wasn't an error. The forums were taking offense, for some reason, at the word "ssh," so I've had to space it out. Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Paolo Victor on July 12, 2008, 04:59:59 PM could save you some money on dreamhost, just ask I'm interest on Dreamhost. Its US$5,95 plan sounded almost too good to be true - and it was: I'd have to pay 10 years in advance! How could you help me? EDIT: GoDaddy seemed like a good choice, then: http://nodaddy.com/ (http://nodaddy.com/) :o Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Corpus on July 12, 2008, 05:10:30 PM could save you some money on dreamhost, just ask I'm interest on Dreamhost. Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: medieval on July 13, 2008, 05:53:02 AM I'm on Byethost (http://www.byethost.com) They haven't let me down since I signed up last year's November.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: dmoonfire on July 14, 2008, 05:35:48 AM I'm on Dreamhost, but won't offer to do the referral thingie (no one every puts it in, plus you have offers already). DH has the occasional up/down time issues, but at $15/month, it isn't bad. Plus, I think I'm up to 6 TB/month bandwidth and about ten times the space I need for all of my sites. Plus, they just seem like cool people.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: team_q on July 14, 2008, 06:48:17 AM I've enjoyed my time at Dreamhost.

(had already 2 questions and the support responded via email within 30 minutes each time. good service so far :) Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Akhel on June 21, 2009, 10:12:32 AM There seems to be a US$50 fee...?
Quote There is a per-plan one time setup fee of $49.95 for all shared hosting packages, and if the customer wishes to cancel DreamHost shared Web Hosting services within ninety-seven (97) days of the initial signup they shall be able to do so for any reason (aside from disablement for Terms of Service or Spam Policy violations) and have their money promptly refunded. http://dreamhost.com/tos.html Don't mean to be paranoid, it's just that it seems too good to be true! Signed up with dreamhost! Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Kneecaps on June 21, 2009, 07:34:59 PM Wow, thanks for the pointer! And with great timing too. I've recently started really getting into web design.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: Corpus on June 22, 2009, 02:37:53 PM dreamhost all the way.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: tofuforlunch on June 23, 2009, 03:19:05 PM Check out 1&1. Tons of space, dirt cheap, (for what is offered) great customer support.
Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: esc on June 24, 2009, 10:21:00 AM $6 * 12months *10 years = $720, so how does $714 mean a 45% discount?
(dreamhost) Title: Re: Web hosting Post by: AuthenticKaizen on June 24, 2009, 10:33:15 AM $6 * 12months *10 years = $720, so how does $714 mean a 45% discount? (dreamhost) original price is 10.95 per month. 10.95 * 12 * 10 = 1314 + one time fee setup of 49.95 = 1363.95 (100%) reduced price is 5.95 per month. 5.95 * 12 * 10 = 714 (55%...sort of... 750.17 would be 55%) |
