Title: Java Coder for a startup indie group - filled
Post by: Kizzycocoa on February 17, 2012, 08:07:22 AM
This position has been filled!
Hiya!

First time to this forum (directed here from another gaming forum), so, if I'm doing something wrong, please don't hesitate to tell me! ^^

I'm trying to start up an indie game group. I've tried to do so for 3 months, but our current coder is doing courses, freelance etc, so I effectively have no coder, the most vital part of a game. as sad as it is, all those three months produced was a main menu, and a map viewer. I value coders above most other professions, but 3 months for that, it simply won't work.

We're working on our first, hopefully launching game "Ascent (http://www.moddb.com/games/ascent)". A 2D birds-eye puzzle game, where you need to direct a robot through a mine by placing arrows on the environment, avoiding obstacles. The game is set in a sci-fi/horror genre, and all visuals/music are intended to look/sound old, but match the game well.

For screenshots, we have a small public gallery here (http://www.moddb.com/games/ascent/images/ascent-level-05#imagebox)

We're using Tiled, so, we're using the TMX map format.

We have everything sorted for other positions, we just need a coder!

I create the art and maps, as well as generally trying to sort out the mechanics, features etc, which I'll discuss with the coder naturally.
for music, The hamster Alliance (once he sees a working game) has said he will throw some music our way.
Distribution-wise, I know the Desura people, and want to see if I could get Ascent onto their platform. I also would hope we could go into Mobile devices, but I'd rather start PC, then expand from there-on.
I did say we have another coder, who is very good at coding. but their activity would not affect this position.

As for being paid, I can't offer a salary. but, I plan to split the money from sold games between the group fairly.

and, after countless revisions/tweaks, that's about all I can think to say. if there are any questions, please feel free to reply/contact me! ^^
