Title: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: Linc on March 30, 2012, 06:28:08 PM Hi,
A friend and I are working on a 2D RPG, for PCs. It will be in the style of Zelda, but don't worry - it won't feel like a Zelda clone in any way. We've planned out probably about 75% of the game, including the storyline, plot twist(s), basic game roadmap, etc. Anyways, I'm just using this thread to post screenshots, updates (when we get a playable build worth crap) of the game - which is currently unnamed, but the main characters name is Zak LeRoi, hence the subject^^ First off: I've been working on a Notes page, for the user to take notes, record quests, and the like. I'm really quite pleased with how it's turned out: (http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/8-Untitled.png) Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: idmadj on April 08, 2012, 07:13:38 PM Notepads in RPGs are totally underused. Will you allow drawing?
Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: ஒழுக்கின்மை (Paul Eres) on April 08, 2012, 07:42:25 PM perhaps you could use more of a hand-written style font on that notepad page? to make it look more like the player is writing rather than typing? unless they're using a typewriter or something
Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: leonelc29 on April 08, 2012, 08:37:23 PM this remind me of "My Journal" mod in elders scroll oblivion, which is not so useful in oblivion since the quest is kinda hand holding. but i believe it's quite useful if the quest in your rpg doesn't have any hand holding quest guide/marker(read: only gave clue and not directly point you to the place/object/people). otherwise, you're probably wasting your time coding these.
Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: Linc on April 09, 2012, 08:50:19 AM idmadj, I'm not sure if we'll do drawing. That's a pretty good idea, I didn't think of that.
Paul, if you have any suggestions, I'm wide open :D It's coded in such a way that it can accept any .ttf font file, so if you can find one somewhere and post it, I just might use it. Leonelc, don't worry, there'll be no hand holding in this RPG. ;D Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: Linc on April 16, 2012, 01:13:42 PM Currently I'm working on coding the inventory system - I made this mockup:
(http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/SampleInventory.PNG) What do you think? I'm trying to make the inventory mouse-based. Do you prefer that to keyboard based control, with the arrow keys? I'm not Paul, but this guy does a lot of great free fonts: http://www.dafont.com/joebob-graphics.d636? Just choose one of the handwritten/caligraphic fonts that you like. :) Title: Re: Zak LeRoi, PC RPG Post by: Linc on April 17, 2012, 01:33:56 PM Ah, those look nice, thanks for the suggestion.
