Title: Ascii Engine in Game Maker Post by: fraxcell on July 18, 2012, 05:46:32 PM Ascii Engine in Game Maker
For use in GM8 pro Download: Host-A (http://www.host-a.net/u/fraxcell/ASCII_Engine_1.01.zip) Mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/?9g6k5qbrk50o6aa) Screenshot 1 (http://i342.photobucket.com/albums/o416/ninjutsu63/screenshot100-7.png) I created this engine as a simple basis for making a game using ascii in Game Maker. It includes a basic paint system and the ability to export and import .txt files. ds_grid is used for storing characters and surfaces are used to draw them. A custom 8x8 sprite font is included, with all 256 characters you would expect to find in an ascii game. You could easily apply this system for rendering and storing characters to make a roguelike or any other ascii game. At this point it is fairly basic, but I released it because I haven't seen any other ascii games or engines made in Game Maker (except for those which use ascii characters as sprites, which doesn't count). Feel free to use it in your games. Credit appreciated, but not required. Update New version uploaded fixing eraser bug and adding .exe file. Also added a screenshot Title: Re: Ascii Engine in Game Maker Post by: Reefpirate on July 26, 2012, 07:31:25 AM I've often thought about doing something like this in Game Maker, and was always a bit puzzled why I didn't see more ASCII games made in Game Maker.
I'll check this out when I get home! Thanks for posting it. |
