I've been tinkering with a colonisation game in my head for ages, so I love seeing stuff like this.
Can't wait to see more. Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: mit5urugi on December 18, 2012, 12:25:47 AM Wow - this looks amazing! The graphics remind me of "Revenge of the Titans"!
I love how the colony is layered and with tons activity. I'm curious; How does the sandstorm work? Can you tell more about the economy/resource system? Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: pluckyporcupine on December 18, 2012, 02:49:35 AM Looks fantastic.
What kind of obstacles to colonizing Mars are there? Any enemies? Fire hazards? Sandstorms tearing things up? Also, I saw you're at 80%. Demo/beta soon? :) Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: mk on December 18, 2012, 05:52:13 AM This looks great! I've been tinkering with a colonisation game in my head for ages, so I love seeing stuff like this. Thanks!I'm curious; How does the sandstorm work? Sandstorm will "break" the buildings, so they will need to be repaired by colonists. Can you tell more about the economy/resource system? There are three type of resources. The first type is required for the operation of the buildings(water/energy). The second type are items which produced by buildings. Metal, which required for new buildings, components for build new pipes, food for feeding colonists and oxygen. The last one - research points. This one needs for attract new colonists and also for buildings. You'll get it by analyze minerals from the surface. Looks fantastic. Thanks! No beta or demo, but it will come out quite soon. Somewhere in January. Also, I saw you're at 80%. Demo/beta soon? :) What kind of obstacles to colonizing Mars are there? Any enemies? Fire hazards? Sandstorms tearing things up? The usual Mars stuff: sandstorms, marsquakes, some space bandits, crazy colonists.Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: dx0ne on December 18, 2012, 06:21:42 AM Wow! This looks really sharp.
Will there be some story/campaign or it will be just build4fun? Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Joshua on December 18, 2012, 07:30:23 AM Any chance we'll get to compete against(sabotage/exploit/blackmail) other companies/entities attempting to colonize Mars also?
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: ScaryPotato on December 18, 2012, 08:06:36 AM Sci-fi SimCity! My bro and I loved playing SimCity on the SNES back in the day, and I've always had a weak spot for sci-fi themes. Would definitely enjoy this :)
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Sustrato on December 18, 2012, 12:56:53 PM Awesome, I'm a sucker for isometric games and you've got a beautiful tileset going.
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: sublinimal on December 18, 2012, 01:00:28 PM Looking forward to playing this one, seems like a fresh take on the strategy genre. There aren't enough indie strategy games for some reason.
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: muki on December 18, 2012, 02:52:55 PM This looks absolutely amazing! I love Mars stuff!
Slight nitpick, but because atmospheric pressure on Mars is a couple percent of that on earth, sandstorms aren't dangerous at all, apart from depositing dust and sand into places sand has no business being. A Martian tornado would barely be felt as more than a gentle breeze, standing right in the middle of it. Still, this looks amazing! Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: mit5urugi on December 18, 2012, 07:06:15 PM Psh! Haven't you seen Mission to Mars - those storms are deadly!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt3lghtpoz0 =) When I saw that sand-storm I was excited about just the idea of having it obscure your colony for the duration and prevent you from making changes. But then I was never a fan of "disasters" in city-building games. If what I'm building in a game is to be destroyed, shouldn't it be from my own mistakes and not randomness? Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Petey on December 18, 2012, 07:37:41 PM This looks super sick!
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: mk on December 19, 2012, 03:39:13 AM Will there be some story/campaign or it will be just build4fun? Yes, there are little story for few missions.Any chance we'll get to compete against(sabotage/exploit/blackmail) other companies/entities attempting to colonize Mars also? Still thinking about it, but there will be enemy units.Awesome, I'm a sucker for isometric games and you've got a beautiful tileset going. Thanks! Tileset and other graphics made by this guy (https://twitter.com/LeonIDeye).Psh! Haven't you seen Mission to Mars - those storms are deadly! Uh, great scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt3lghtpoz0 =) When I saw that sand-storm I was excited about just the idea of having it obscure your colony for the duration and prevent you from making changes. But then I was never a fan of "disasters" in city-building games. If what I'm building in a game is to be destroyed, shouldn't it be from my own mistakes and not randomness? For the storms in the game - they not really dangerous. They more about keeping colonists busy. Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Belimoth on December 19, 2012, 03:46:46 AM I zoned out on the video and forgot to come back here to comment. Looks great :)
Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Joshua on December 19, 2012, 09:30:48 AM I don't mean enemies as in soldiers and fighting. I was more implying using vital resources (food, water, oxygen) to barter with other colonies to further your goals. Just a thought.

Or if your habitat is solar, then you'd be running at 50% efficiency (sand buildup on panels), forcing you to make rough priority decisions, a la FTL. That would be awesome! Also, micrometeorites! :screamy: Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: impulse9 on December 21, 2012, 05:23:20 AM If it plays half as good as it looks then I'm addicted already. :addicted:

Not really had planned interactions with other colonies yet, but thanks for the idea.Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: K1lo on December 22, 2012, 02:50:54 AM This looks awesome! Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: eobet on December 28, 2012, 11:35:41 AM Amazing!
I don't care for combat at all, so how close will this be to Pharaoh, Anno 1404 or Settlers 2? Even though the graphics are retro, I hope the shortcomings on the previous titles won't be present in this more modern title (ie. the lack of AI in the walkers of Pharaoh, making blockades necessary, and the very strict ranges of the buildings in Anno, making all city centers look the same... Settlers 2 actually didn't have any shortcomings that I can think of, but it was more a traffic management sim than a city building sim). Maybe I'm getting my hopes up too high, though? Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Sustrato on January 02, 2013, 10:29:04 PM That looks super awesome. Although I hope you don't have to have a dedicated landing pad for all troops, that's pretty limited.

It's more similar to settlers, I think. It's quite a small and simple game, so it's hard to compare with these games. @7heSama, thanks! Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Zaxuhe on January 04, 2013, 10:56:46 AM I really like the looks, can't wait to play it!

Title: Re: [Strategy]Mars Colonies Post by: Arnold on January 04, 2013, 03:21:12 PM oh yeah reminds my of the good 'ol C&C days with Tiberium Dawn and Red Alert II. I still think the die animation and sound of the soldiers in Red Alert II are the best ever! *pwwwoozoommm*
