No gameplay or anything like that yet. You can just walk and look around.

I got bored and decided that I could just list all the enemies I have so far.

Tank

Basic cannon fodder enemy. Can be annoying in big amounts though. Weapon has limited range.

Mech 1

Follows you around and circle strafes while shooting big slow moving bullets. If you get too close it will start backpedaling.

Mech 2

Slowly lumbers towards you while shooting around in circular pattern.

Mech 3

Some sort of artillery support mech. Fires 3 shots upwards after which they fall somewhere around you.

Shooting implemented. I've already done too much considering the compo hasn't even started  :laughter:

I toned down the line effect thing as the black lines looked a bit too harsh. The bigger crosshair always stays at the horizon (kind of) while the small one moves up and down. The white ball is a LIGHTNING BALL. Or something like that.

So since it's LEGAL to work on the competition game in Finland now, here's a video. It shows everything I've done, which isn't much. I don't think I have that much of an unfair advantage over people who haven't started yet.

wow :o :o the bullet effects, walking animation (sway), and the models depicted are all really well done.  is the "crosshair" the only things that's going to be red?  it's a little jarring from the rest of the really dark world.  yeah, i think it might be too dark?

ha, no no, i do think that the greyscale is a good choice.  it should look more complete once the rest of the cockpit is finished, i suppose.  what's the white box at the top for? mapping?  is there a story for this game or is it pure destruction action :eyebrows:

The game will most likely have a simple story. As for the white box I am not 100% sure about it myself yet.

Maybe the white box could be your health? It has shades of blue to red to show danger? When you get hit, it moves one shade closer to red?

This is how I am going to be doing the enemy graphics in this game. If I want to get this game done in time there's no way I am going to make fully colored AND animated sprites. Besides I think it looks good and this way I can possibly add a lot more different enemies faster.

No, they're actually completely covered in bright glowing neon red paint. The enemy faction has absolutely no sense of camouflage, or are overly confident that their favorite color will lead them to victory no matter how easy a target it makes them. (That, or they're aware that all mechs' crosshairs are red, and are hoping this will throw enemy fire off-aim if they can't see their crosshairs in a mass of enemies)

Will the enemies be simple red forms like that in the final version? I really like the aesthetic of the enemies as they are now.

I'll be VERY amused if the demo comes out and it turns out that the enemies are the white-cloud-shaped things.

Having all your enemies red is going to be too cool. It's definitely going to have an old school feel. Plus it kind of reminds me of The Terminator. Keep it up. You could actually win this.

The health bar being on the right makes it hard to keep track of. But you did good implementing the whole 'bullet hell' thing well.

It looks awesome, though.

Oh. Whoops then.

What about the dots at the top? I didn't see them disappear when you killed the enemies, so I'm guessing they're not enemy health...

I just slapped some random enemies in there so you have something to shoot. It's far from a game and to be honest I don't really find it any fun myself. Controls are ESDF for walking, shift for running and left mouse to shoot.

well...i thought that was pretty cool; especially liked the voiceheaddude thing at the title screen, and I enjoyed what I played of the main game (it's quite hard!).

anyway, I hope whatever else you're working on is also cool :)
