Title: Chuck Yeager's BLASTMOSPHERE!!!

So I decided to join this competition. This game will be a flight simulator with extra violence. It will take place in the 1950s and will probably feature pinup models and chrome and fedoras. Also you get to fly a helicopter.

Now I just have to learn how to do 3d programming in Game Maker!! I'm sure that will be FUN!!!!!

At least it looks superb. :-*

You could just make the game a bunch of pretty pictures, and I would still like it.

However, it would be a nice game.  ;)

I hope you're doing this.  Chuck Yeager's Flight Simulator was one of my favourite games growing up.

Bonus points if this (or any other game) allows for use of a flight joystick. :handmetalL:

Well, the game doesn't really have anything to do with Chuck Yeager. I might end up changing the name, lest people mistake it for a serious flight sim. Right now it's more like a lame 3d version of Thrustburst without enemies. Makin progress though

Here's what the game looks like right now:

I'll try to get a demo out soon.

The sprite work is awesome!

I think having Chuck Yeager's name in the title even if it has nothing to do with him is a great touch. Makes me chuckle when I think about it!

I really like the style, too.

The sun in the skyline is glorious.

Here's a short demo. Just the beginning of the first level.. Still no enemies yet, but it's starting to look more like a game.

That looks really amazing. :o  The hands need work, but the cockpit and the scenery is beautiful.

it's visually really nice, but I quite disagree with the flying physics and the feel of the controls.

do you plan to keep it so that you can only face in one direction?

Wow, it looks wonderful! I'm agreeing with Andy's comments on the controls, though. I'm guessing the reason you always face in the same direction is because of the nature of the scenery, which is all sprite-based. I reckon it could work, but the controls definitely need tightening up; drop any pretence of realism, and make the aircraft a lot more agile, like in Afterburner.

Aside from that, though, I really like the look and feel of things.

I think pressing down should make you go up and the other way round.

I think pressing down should make you go up and the other way round.

Or add the ever-expected "Invert Y-axis" option somewhere?

I love the graphics and sound. I'm with the others on the down-to-go-up thing. Also I was tilted right, and pressed left to straighten myself out, and only straightened very slowly; I think the problem is that it isn't recentering when you release the right key, but only when you release all keys.

Thanks for the comments everyone..

First of all, I will keep it so you only fly in one direction. I want the game to be more arcade-style than realistic, so I want to keep the levels simple. Also, the way I build the levels kind of limits me to that-- basically I just have a list of objects from the takeoff to the end :shrug2:

I will tighten up the controls, though. And I'll probably invert the keys too.

I'll probably add joystick support some time.. like as soon as I get around to buying a joystick.

This looks incredibly awesome and I didn't have any problems with the controls, to be honest. The noise of the craft was a bit annoying though.

Wow the pixel work is very cool!  lov the wood-grain dash and the smoking ashtray is the sht!  i understand the forward flying setup and think it could work quite well,. although a tad more responsivness is probably needed,. it's a fine line of limits vs freedom as in all game design I guess,. I tried to strafe the neat little truck on the road but the shots don't seem to connect,. yet. ;)

I love the cigarette :D

The height display could be clearer though, maybe add some kinda virtual horizon?
Looks cool

I'm loving this badly. You'd better not let the family down.  :handpointL::noir::handknifeR:

(We should've probably teamed up btw.)

It's not canceled. I've been taking a break from it because I got a little overwhelmed (it's the first time I've ever really done 3d stuff). Don't worry though. I will have something playable by the end of the week  8)

Heh... I haven't played Tragedius yet, but it does look a lot like what I'm going for. Kind of a first-person space-harrier. I'm downloadting your game right now. Maybe I can steal your ideas get some inspiration from it.
