Title: Astatine - Released
Post by: Cesque on March 21, 2009, 04:58:02 PM
Hey tigsource. I am hereby announcing the completing of Astatine, my platform game with emphasis on exploration, story and combat ("metroidvania", if you will). It is inspired by a variety of games, mainly Cave Story and Quake (the original one). The game was created with Game Maker 7, unregistered (yep). The music was done by Purianite.

Any suggestions are welcome, but please be warned if you make any major ones I'll probably murder you with an axe (since I have an issue with posting a game hundreds of times and getting no feedback, and then releasing it and getting tons of suggestions all of sudden).

Anyways, have fun - hopefully!

Game size: 10+ MB
No resolution change, starts windowed (fullscreen available)

If you need help, Julius at YouTube did a great walkthrough of Astatine (although a slightly outdated beta version), which you can find here:

Enjoy!

Ps. A note to PureQuestion: Sorry, no shooting down while standing in the end. (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=4692.0) I did some test on that, though, and it just didn't end up very good.

Well, thank you :P (that was probably a rather shameless bump, but hey, I deserve something after over a year of freaking work ;))

If anyone plays it, do tell me how far'd you got.

I got up to the part with the robot and the vertical beams of yellow that you have to switch on to kill him. After dieing a few times i gave up for the day. No idea how far through that is.

Not sure why you're getting so few comments, as it is a pretty fun game.

You can use rockets to stun that boss :) I was wondering how many people would come up with using them. It's not very far before the end, through there is one optional side area after that, too.

And thanks! Advertising, not design, is everything these days, even in the indie world. *sigh*

Very, very fun. I can see how Quake inspired you - it was one of the most influential games of my childhood as well.

This is really nice! I like all the little touches, like light streaks shining through the windows, or the flurry of blood from enemies. Keep up the good work!   :handthumbsupL: ;) :handthumbsupR:
