I was a bit confused at first, but then got really impressed by it. I want to see more.

I happen to know that Kanye's production company has been reaching out to developers, even indies, for a while now so I wouldn't be surprised if he announces a few more video games at some point in the future.

Is this how video games will reach a level of respect as a medium from the general public?

Also the trailer made me genuinely excited for it so I'm looking forward to seeing how his game turns out.

I don't think it will be good, but it will get praise anyway because it's Kanye. I hate his music and I don't like his bloated ego and that's what makes me think he will try to create a half-assed superficial story knowing his fame will support it even if it were a complete joke of a game (in this case this would come off as genius kitsch of course). Don't get me wrong, I don't want to come off as a hater, deep down I want this to be good, but when my friend links me some rap analysis of his lines I cringe inside.

I use to be the same until I started freelance indie dev full-time and I had to explain what I do for a living to people. I get the same look from them as I had been giving kanye fans in the past.

I still don't like his work or his personality, but at least now there is a begrudging sense of respect for what hes achieved, even if its in a medium I don't understand.

I love how Kim's game was this hugely successful, dominant, Product and then Kanye's like "im going to do a deeply personal piece of art about my mom's soul flying towards heaven."

say what you want about them, but those two are in a position to completely flip the industry status quo, both in terms of audience and content. i for one welcome our new yeezy overlords!

Maybe it is all kanyes doing... If you as much money as he has you can get the best teachers, the best tools, etc. I'm not a rap music fan but there is no denying he's a passionate person. With passion, time, tools and energy you get skilled quickly.

I would be surprised if that was the case but maybe his true calling is games? He said a year ago he was working on this for six months if i recall correctly.

Either way this is an interesting situation! Can't wait to see more.

I imagine we're gonna be seeing a lot of this in the future.  Celebrity X resolves to take a stab at the ol' childhood dream of making their own game - Media circles and spits out embarrassing details as they see fit - Sides are taken - Game is released to an already polarized audience - Manufactured drama - Sales - $$$ - Rinse - Repeat...

Sometimes I swear it seems like people are trying to insert the old 'tabloid' type of coverage into the games industry.  "Kanye West does silly thing! news at 11!", I personally would like to see one of those super obvious bullshit type news outlets emerge based entirely around video games.  "Batboy emerges from keyboard and consumes indie dev during polish phase! Shocking details inside!"

Honest thoughts about the game :  I dunno...I think that sun/portal towards the end looked pretty snazzy.  Who knows it could be a fun game, time will tell I guess.

It still cracks me up to picture this guy roaming around San Fransisco getting shot down repeatedly and not realizing why.

Because a thread full of "Yeah... uhhh.. I don't really know" is certainly an interesting insight.

I'm a big Kanye fan, even if he can be a complete ass sometimes and make a fool of himself. Late Registration is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I've closely followed his work.

I appreciate the work he put into this, and I'll look forward to seeing how it does. I heard that originally he wanted to be a game developer before he got involved with music at a young age, so that's interesting.

On a similar note, Kanye just does not seem well lately. Even Rhymefest agreed in an interview that he thinks Kanye is mentally ill. I know he was under a lot of stress around the MBDTF release because of his mother's death, but he seems a lot worse now. Especially if you follow him on twitter, you'll notice something just seems...off. I'm sure he's under a ton of stress, but I hope things get better for him.

So all visual material for this game is this short trailer, so far? No gameplay mechanics are shown? Not much to talk about.  :shrug2:

What do you guys mean by mentally ill? Just because artists do some crazy stuff, especially under stress, doesn't necessarily mean they're ill. It's like when you put a baby into a bath tub and let your hallucination friend take care of it. Is that what you mean?

I've always thought he seemed kind of autism spectrumy (a lot of his assholish moments struck me as less malicious and more lacking in social empathy/lack of an understanding of social norms) and like he's always kind of hovered around that point, also usual hiphop braggadocio, but yeah the last month or two of news I've seen involving him have made him seem really paranoid/genuinely out of touch with reality?

Of course, possibility 2 is that he's totally fine and the /mental breakdown/ is some kind of deliberate marketing gimmick or Grammy shenanigans.

The thing that makes this extra funny is that apparently he didn't even visit game devs. He apparently went around to random tech companies saying "hey make my game" and they kept turning him down because they don't make games.

He has been doing some p shitty/shady stuff re:his newest album release, but yeah, I totally agree the hate is totally disproportionate to his actual actions. People just love to hate him because it's easy/popular to shit on him and harder for people to actually listen to his stuff and consider that he might be an actually good, important musician.

the funniest thing to me is the outrage over his behavior at the grammys. last i checked, the grammys were an incredibly dull and irrelevant music industry circlejerk. kanye making them marginally more entertaining should be applauded if anything. are we really going to criticize someone for taking a dump in a toilet??

Honestly the funniest part about that is that Kayne's stage run-ups are one of the /very few/ notable things that have happened at the Grammys. Like I think Kendrick's performance monday and Arcade Fire getting album of the year awhile back were the only other things since like 2000 that were notable at all.

It's interesting how celebrities are jumping into games industry over the last few years. I think they see a business opportunity as they already usually have a massive fan base. If they can successfully convert those fans into potential gamers then it works well!

That's all great but I'm not keen on celebrities saying they "made a game" like they really created it themselves. That's just not the case - they hired people to build their games. I want to see a celebrity learn coding and make their game for real!
