Title: Tom Sennett, Procrastinator
Post by: Tom Sennett on March 28, 2009, 05:59:28 PM
I present to you a poignant piece of autobiography.

Game is about one of my favorite pastimes: doing absolutely nothing. Go for the highest score and press SPACEBAR to finish.

PU-LAY NAO (http://coolmoose.net/games/flash/TSP.php)

I don't get it. Does space increase points, quit the game, or do nothing?

it stops the points from increasing

It's cheating just to leave this open in a different window, isn't it.  :(

And this thing is great man, so simple and yet so compelling!  :D

2nd place, 441 points.
Tom has more than 9,000 points.
 :wtf:

Good job!

I loved the idea when you told me the concept, and it was well executed.
 :handthumbsupL: ;D :handthumbsupR:

(Although playing it can cause depressing self-reflection due to irony)

That's what I love about this: when I caught myself procrastinating on Sunday, I intentionally played this, and by the mid-hundreds had guilted myself into pressing space and getting some work done.  So in the end I think I lost less time to procrastination!

Well Done!

bravo sir! bravo! indeed  :gentleman:

The music you use in all of these is amazing.  i actually download a ton of public domain music and just used it in a commercial I made for Crayon Ball... and might also use some when making a soundtrack for the game.

There should be a competition for this game. Whoever stays awake/doesn't leave to go to the bathroom/doesn't press space out of pure boredom wins!

Nah... it's sort of missing those returning thoughts like "I really need to get to work" while procrastinating all the while.

Still... one of the simplest competitive games I guess :)

So I posted this on Newgrounds yesterday, just for kicks.

Reactions were... mixed (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/490191). My favorite is the guy who suggests "achievements or medals even".

Yeah, the achievements thing was funny.  Maybe you could, like, make the in-game Tom do something silly when a ridiculously high score is reached.  But that might be going against the point of the game.

Like, MochiAds distribution?

Why would anyone want this game on their site?

I made a game like this once called Don't Press 7. I'd link to it n Newgrounds, but now it's gone FOR SOME REASON.

This game would be more about procrastination if you had to consistantly click on it to get a higher score. Or even holding down the space bar.

off-topic:

How about making continue-playing fraud game? (oh, Zaratustra already did something like that, but it wasn't really fraud - the monkey did dance at the end)

You know, applying same advance-fee fraud tactics.

I got almost 100,000 points then accidentally closed it. :epileptic:
