Title: Cardinal (added character lineup) Post by: Joseph on April 16, 2009, 03:22:53 PM Heres an idea I had for a beatemup along the lines of battle toads, comix zone, and aliens v predator. The main character is cardinal, a human/alien hybrid with superhuman powers who doesn't believe in wearing pants.

His design is just to generic. Nothing that would stick in my mind. Also, the design should explain the character's name. I really don't see how a naked red guy is a cardinal unless the entry requirements of the Catholic church have been changed somewhat.
love the animations. one one problem with the shooting one. I think the smoke bbubles should follow the bullet a bit earlier. Just my 2 cents. all in all looks real good. ps. how about some crystal spikes growing out of his shoulders and back as a design for a powered up version. pps. how about giving him some cracks and veins like he is made up of magma and lava and stuff? The redness and black around the eyes does have some ties to the bird, but aside from that he's just a naked red buff dude. Maybe a crest or something, or have the blackness on his face encompass his mouth as well (as it does in the bird). Some distinguishing features besides the crystal in his chest, you know? Like...More crystals...in his not-chest...or something.

I dont want to be too tied down by what an actual cardinal looks like, im more interested in the color and the religious connotations. Anyways i was thinking of creating an alien bird that is referred to as a cardinal for its red and black coloring... changed chest gem added gem to wrist BTW the gem on his chest is a pocket-dimension storage portal. Basically stuff will get sucked into his chest and can be accessed later. Maybe the darker highlights needs to be made darker? also, how about darkening the area where the shoulders meets the neck?
at first look they just look like shadows. And I still can't shake off the feeling that I saw this guy in Cho Aniki. Maybe some light accents could help too? I still can't shake the idea that the enemies look like they've got more character - no, not character, more...notable design than the main character himself. But...I guess there's only so much you can do with a...buff naked dude. movement Walk left or right. Press down to crouch. standard attack (punch) Press repeatedly to perform a 4 hit combo. Combine with direction buttons to perform strong attacks. I.E. up+atk= uppercut, forward+atk= switch kick, down+atk= sweep special attack (shoot) Combine direction buttons to perform other special attacks. I.E. nuetral+sp= energy shot, forward+sp= searing lunge, up+sp= knee blast, down+sp= thunderstorm (shield breaker) jump Jumping is important. Wall jumps are possible. shield Nullify most attacks. Watch out for shield breaking attacks. summon item Use your chest gem to summon items/weapons from a pocket dimension. You can store an infinite number of items. grab/throw Grab and throw anything; items, weapons, or enemies. I'm thinking a gamepad or XB controller would be ideal...
