Title: [PC, CONSOLE] Afterglow 20.51
Post by: Nugget Team on September 27, 2016, 10:08:29 AM
(http://i67.tinypic.com/28i7ntv.png)

Hello everybody! We are a small – and brave - indie team from Valencia, Spain and we are doing our first game at the time. We hope you could play it very soon!

Afterglow 20.51 is a graphic adventure where all happens inside of a paper train. Our main character doesn’t remember anything about how he arrived there, what is that place or what to do and his mission it’s to answer all the questions. With a little push of our charismatic barman and with help of a little strange pig, discover the secrets that this train and its passengers.

And most importantly: we will discover that we have a skill never seen, Emotion Sync. You can change your emotions with other passengers of the train, changing their way to see the world, making them chattier (or not). Thanks to it we can reveal much more information than there is in the naked eye but beware, those emotions will completely change your perception and ability to make decisions.

We'll update more info soon!

Wow  :o

This takes "Paper Mario" to a whole new level. I really love how the whole world is essentially an origami. I really, really admire this aesthetic. Very unique!

Wow guys! That's some classy way of using low poly! I really like the idea of an origami world and I've always liked these stories that revolve around solving a mistery in a train, it sounds like an old novel.

Just one question, what's with the title? (If you can talk about it without spoiling anything, of course :P)

Keep on the good work, we'll be following you.

While I've watched plenty of animations that use various paper art, I agree that it hasn't been used much in games and will look new and different for many people. I have a few ideas of my own. ;)

I've just seen a few other devlogs mentioning similar-ish game mechanic where instead of just using the common logic based dialogue, emotions and other aspects are considered.  It'll be interesting to see how such mechanics work.

Hello everyone! Thanks a lot for your comments, ideas and questions! We really apreciate it! We have some news about the game we want to share with you. But first some answers!

Wow, thanks! We played The last Express to investigate about games seted in trains and we think it's a very profitable scene (also, quite beautiful!)

About the name...I'm afraid yes, it's an spoiler, so you have to play it to discover it

Oh wow, that is a really cool and unique art style you got! Will be following! :D

Thank you! Our art team is really hard-working because we have to release the demo next week in Barcelona and we want it to be as interesting and beautiful we could!

I've just seen a few other devlogs mentioning similar-ish game mechanic where instead of just using the common logic based dialogue, emotions and other aspects are considered.  It'll be interesting to see how such mechanics work.

We'll have a gameplay video available soon, like a short trailer where you can see how our mechanic works  :)

We are going to be this week at Barcelona Games World (Spain), is gonna be the first time we show the game in public, and we want to see if the mechanic works the way we want. When we come back, I'll prepare the gameplay video so you can see by yourselves how it works and gives us your opinion. Short demo will be avaible soon as well.

We wanted to show you this gif where you can appreciate the textures of 3 of 4 characters in the game. The metalic texture + paper train was one of the first things we have clearly about the art style and we think we archieve our firsts thoughts.

The litle animal in the center is Lunchy, and you all will love him, trust me.

The art style looks quite unique, I saw on your twitter that youre demoing the game at a con, any chance you could post some gifs of the gameplay in action?

Thanks for your feedback!
About gameplay gifs, there are two CM's in our team, who are in charge of the team's Facebook, Twitter, Web and TigSource thread, they have made a marketing plan so I am sure that yes, there will be some gifs or video showing gameplay. I don't know when will be the right time to post them (I am not into marketing, I know nothing about it) but as they stated on the last devlog, they are making a gameplay video to post, I recommend you follow the thread so you can see it as soon as it is uploaded :)

We're back! Last week we were in Barcelona Games World showing Afterglow 20.51 for the first time and it was awesome. People loved our paper-art and enjoyed playing with pj's emotions.

You can see in this video (http://bit.ly/2dZsw22) how the event was and how people play the game! :handanykey:

Futhermore, today we want to introduce Lunchy, the most charismatic character in our game. This cute pig helps you to "play" with emotions  and follow us over the story as loyal partner.

You can see it on movement here (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/NoJe1)!

As always, we're really happy amd thankful for all your comments. We're working hard every day to improve and continue with Afterglow 20.51. More news soon, cheers!

After a well deserved month of rest, we have found a new site to continue working in Afterglow 20.51 stronger than ever and although we are advancing little by little, we hope to be able to show you new things every week. We have a lot of work ahead: our game designers are giving everything to build a story with bite, our programmer scripts from down to dusk and our artists are literally doing magic.

This is our new workplace:

Now, we want to show you the new animations we added to Lunchy, our beloved little pig. We think he's too adorable for a game as serious as ours, but we can not give it up.

Our next goal is to show you our advances in the emotion sync's mechanic. Soon you will see how Wrath, Happiness, Sadness and Fear appear in our game. Cheers!

We really really really appreciate your comment. Making this aesthetic was a hard decision, but totally worth it. We wish you enjoy this as much as we do  :handshakeL:

Wow really cool aesthetic!

Thanks to you too for your comment!

We have good news for you, next updates are about emotion's mechanic!

Really interesting idea but I hope you update more information about mechanics. I think the art is quite beautiful as well  :)

Well, we're trying to update every week and we promise you that the next news will be about mechanics  :)

Unique art style lads! And it's nice to see an exploration game where you're just exploring conversations! Very excited to see more progress! Good luck

Thanks! We really appreciate your words about the art, it's a very important point on our game  ;D

Well! This time we wanted to show you how Afterglow 20.51 looks on move. Here's Nicholas -a really angry Nicholas- talking with us and the moment when we can syncronize our emotions with him. After this, Nicholas is in a neutral state and we have a problem: we're feeling angry and it affects in our decisions.

I love these aesthetics! normally in conventional low-poly games (this seems to be like low-poly hehe I could be wrong) everything looks polished and clean... not here, the rough paper-like textures gives realism and uniqueness, loving it! keep that way man  :coffee:

I love the visual style too, it's a great way to make simple models appear amazing. When I first saw the image, I instantly though about the movie "Source Code", probably because you seem to be locked up in a train and with amnesia. And it's a powerfull feeling for a game to have, prety clostrophobic and anxiety inducing. Is it the kind of feeling you are looking for?

You're right! We wanted to make a low-poly game (as much as possible with our knowledge) without leaving aside an interesting and striking aesthetic. We're really thanful about your comment! :D

And it's a powerfull feeling for a game to have, prety clostrophobic and anxiety inducing. Is it the kind of feeling you are looking for?

Yes, it is. We try to convey a sense of bewilderment and loneliness that makes the player feel the need to investigate what happens on that train. That's why we made the characters without facial features and a "fragile" environment. We hope that you enjoyed what you have seen and follow our progress, we're really grateful for your words!

Woooooah the latest GIF is incredible!

Thanks! We hope that as soon as possible we could show more new pics and gisf about Afterglow 20.51. So , we're waiting for more of your comments! :)

This time we want to show you our last character -totally finished- for our game. This is Alma and all those colors reveal what she really is. The new lighting that we have created also gives to her a great look. Beautiful, isn't it?  We hope we can show you how she moves through our paper train very soon.

Happy New Year! (Yes, it's January 12th...)

Since the beginning of the year we're working really hard for a new opportunity that has been presented to us: PlayStation inaugurates its PS Games Camp in our city (Valencia). That has forced us to work harder and better -and faster- than we had planned, but we're very proud of the results we are getting.

Next week, we could show to us more about our work, but for the moment we wanted to show how we can remove The Fear from our cute Lunchy:

Hi guys!

There's some news -beauty news- that we want to share. Last week we were making a lot of new animations, programing and cinematics to make a little video about Afterglow 20.51. The video is not ready yet, but we have recorded some of the best parts we made.

Here’s the 4 emotions with wich we could Synchronize ours with all the characters in Afterglow 20.51: Rage, Fear, Happines and Sadness. Those changes are provisional but not so far from what we want to achieve. We’re searching music and effects that help us to get the perfect sensation to each emotion and drawing some decals to support this insights.
Dou you like? Don't think, just feel :)

Hello tigsource! Last week we found some comments about our last updates -and this is amazing- so, let's answer them!:

Fresh, unique look. Definitely sets your game apart. I like the visual effects that you're using for different emotions. It's this kind of detail that makes a game special. Great job!

We're trying to polish that visual effects to achieve an unique "feeling about each emotion", clear and powerful. We really appreciate your words!  :coffee:

Woah. Interesting art-style!

Do you like it? Thanks! We're working really hard to create an striking aesthetic

Well, now, the news. We have recently integrated elements that are closely related to Synchronization of Emotions and the puzzles. These "particles" are, literally, the atomic representation of the four emotions with which we will play in Afterglow 20.51. We have decided to integrate these elements as a different way of solving puzzles and as a way to complete the aesthetic of absorbing emotions.

What do you think about it? We think it's a great decision!  :)

Thanks buddy :) What do you think about our emotional mechanic? We're trying to create an creative-interesting way to solve the puzzles and relations with others.

Lately we have been working on the third and last wagon in afterglow 20.51. It's a place divided into individual rooms full of nooks and objects with which we can solve situations and unveil many of the mysteries of the history of our train. Take a look!

I think your Emotion Sync is most interesting. I am not sure exactly how it will work, but I wish to learn more about it! I am curious how it will become a mechanic in your game. Apologies if you have already explained much of this beforehand and I have missed it.

Don't worry! We will be pleased to explain how it works  :) The Emotion Sync mechanic is the main mechanic in Afterglow 20.51. It allows you to exchange your predominant emotion at that moment with the emotion of another character. For example, if we have Sadness, we can exchange that with the Wrath of another character, then we will be angry and the other character sad. This allows us to get certain reactions and collect important information to uncover all the unknowns in the history of the game: who we are, what we do there, what happens in that train ...

On another level, we have been preparing some pics to build our Press Kit. In the next updates we will go up to teach you in depth how we have built Afterglow 20.51.

Today, we start with the stage and the main props:
