People seem to like it, I will try it later tonight. Anyone played it? It still looks really cool after all these years.

Is it just me or is there no youtube video in my post? I tried to post their trailer but only got a blank space.

Edit: It was my browser blocking the script. So it works I guess.

Doesn't show up for me and I sometimes have the same issue. The format
Code:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=videoid
usually works

Is it weird that I'm just really proud of the devs right now?

Enjoying the game but it's really not what I expected, the nuanced political undertones, the outbreak of war, the sudden tonal shift involved with showing the brutal effects it has on ordinary people, it's just all emotionally exhausting. That said, Owldolph Hootler is the best written villain of the generation, very believable motivations re: the pelicans

I thought the opening bits were a bit rough and made the game look like it'd be Super Generic Metroidvania but I played further and I'm enjoying the hell out of it now.

... Nobody seems to be playing it over on Steam tho. I kind of suspect it's the 25 dollar price tag. Is 25 dollars a lot of money? Are devs just expected to lowball their prices now?

Looks fantastic, that framerate though.

Not sure but it looks like that. Consumers love Steam sales. Also when a solo project goes beyond 15 Dollar mark you will frequently find steam threads complaining about that. Axiom Verge is one example:

Man, the OP's sense of entitlement… Sad how people can't price the things they create without anyone calling it a ripoff and *demanding* a price drop.

About Owlboy itself I haven't tried it out yet but it sounds and looks great. Congratulations for the devs. :)

I don't think videogames actually exist! but this, I have been waiting ten years and dozens of failed relationships for this.

I hope it makes me happy, again

25 bucks isn't much, but personally I've already used up this months budget I've allotted to games (GOG had a sale). Will have to wait next month, and even then I would rather not buy it on Steam...

The game looks fantastic!

to be honest, that's why i've been reluctant about the game. i'm burned out on the metroidvania formula and while the visuals are amazing, gameplay looks a little bland from the videos i've seen.

what makes it different from generic metroidvanias?

Actually the game is 60fps, the trailer is misleading in that regard.

The thing separating it from other Metroidvanias is that it's not a Metroidvania at all.

The first area's sort of misleading in that it makes it look like the gameplay is based around getting different weapons to clear binary locks a la most Metroidvanias. Except the weapon collection angle's basically limited to the first area. You get a dash ability shortly thereafter, and later on you get a grappling hook kind of things, but that's the extent of the upgrade cycle (well, you get like, more powerful attacks eventually but they don't do anything besides being better at attacking). And the grappling hook thing is more... used for unique stage gimmicks and less "Oh hey now I can go open like 30 doors I saw hours ago."

It's sort of closer to Cave Story in that it's a more normal linear, story-driven sidescroller without clear level breaks? Although it feels more like... I don't know, Kid Icarus + Rocket Knight + flying + something that Treasure would've made (only easier).

It's not a cave story ripoff though.

for instance sprites use more than like three colors
