im super Joe and I am in some big danger. I am taking a long haul flight and I hate super hero movies. What are some good games for this kind of phone that don't need an internet connection. Many thanks

I've never played an android game other than what I think is a trivia crack knockoff for a while but ppl tell me the cat platformer is good

Marvel movies got a lot better in the previous couple of decades but that still isn't saying much and if you're an action movie connoisseur you should probably still skip them

no idea if it's on android tbh but it is on ios. it controls very elegantly too, uses swipe to change direction and pinch to bomb and thats it. it's almost as fun as the console version imo.

also be sure to get the DX version, not the old pacman CE. the old version has horrible virtual button controls and is basically unplayable. god speed

Don't you have a transportable gaming device that happens to have a lot of playable entertainment software without advertisements and doesn't get it's battery depleted really fast?

no, i am a regular adult man

i fly a lot and havent found a mobile game yet where the controls or repetitive gameplay designed to be addictive instead of fun hasn't ended with a near flying phone related injury onboard the aircraft.  Even ports of really good games like mega-man and pacman i end up hating because the controls just suck so bad on touchscreens.

Now even if i don't need it on the trip i bring my laptop. I also have a gen1 DS so i've also gotten into trying to speedrun the gameboy/DS castlevania and zelda games during the flight, if i haven't won before the plane lands i failed..

pacman CE DX tho....

i have seen exactly 1 super hero movie in my entire life and i intend to keep it that way

pac man CE DX is a very good game. gotta love that little pellet munching guy.

pac man is one of the classic videogame heroes and that he was "revived" and given new relevance in PAC MAN CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION DX is nothing short of a miracle. everyone owes it to themselves to play this masterpiece, especially the very competent mobile port.

Sonic Dash works without an internet connection (it actually runs better without one), though only the main missions work (some bonus stuff needs to connect to the server at least once a day, albeit only thing they give you is a random item).

It may look like a F2P cashgrab but: earlier this year we got a tablet and I started with a blank savegame. First attempt: made it to the fourth region. Second attempt: made it to the nineth region (I have this odd habit where somehow I perform better than usual after not playing for a long while...). Skill completely trumps power-ups and items no matter what and the latter only have any significance on edge cases.

The biggest problem at first will be the controls. Until you figure how much lag the screen has you'll be running into everything. Once you figure that out swiping is much easier.

pac man CE DX features a large variety of maps and game modes, all divided into bite-sized challenges you can repeat to your heart's content. the short length of the individual levels almost makes it a better mobile than console game, in my opinion.

for example (this is an actual true story): today i played one of the 4 minute ghost combo levels on the bus on my way home from grocery shopping. for some reason i failed the level even though i did have a 30 ghost combo, as was asked of me. i found this very confusing. but such is the nature of video games.

Pac Man can be a meditative act

don't ignore pac man CE DX because "pac man is played out and irrelevant in 2016". the developers at Mineloader Software took the core mechanics of pac man and built a thoroughly modern, and thoroughly engaging game on top of them. it feels remarkably fresh, a true tribute to the arcade classic but also an update.

will it be pac man's final spot in the limelight? who knows, but i have a hunch that we haven't seen the last of this little yellow charmer.  ;)

point being, Pac Man Championship Edition DX is a good game. i've not played the sequel, but i've heard it does not live up to CE DX's pedigree.

btw, has anyone here played pac man CE 2? it is on steam but ive heard mixed things about it.

director's cut or deluxe. i've heard both. you joke about frogger, but there was a frogger game that was similar to pacman championship edition released on xbla a few years ago. it wasn't very good.

dream quest isn't on android, which is unfortunate because it's best played on a tablet. still recommend it on steam/ios, though.

agreed but it keeps deleting my progress all the fucking time. apparently its a bug thats ha sbeen around for a while, so dont expect a fix.
