Title: CAVE EXPLORER
Post by: Raisins on December 05, 2009, 09:03:52 PM
CAVE EXPLORER

Play on my host (http://plaidbuttonup.com/ce/)

or swf cabin (http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1263080104)
press 'c' to use your magic or support

WARNING: It might freak out and crash everything. Use at your own risk
  • procedurally generated Cave
  • 8 bad ass classes
  • every time you play the game is different
  • intense action at 60fps
  • 1080p HD GRAPICS

It's pretty buggy and the balance is a bit off.
-if you have an older system it might take a while to gen the world
-I am not sure SME can even kill a dude
-the 2nd row is pretty broken
-shooter class, after a while he might not hit things
-needs more monsters
-the end scoring is a bit off  :durr:

Any ideas or Suggestions? :gentleman:

Sharing your scores and what class you made/died with would be awesome.

UBOAAAAあああああああああああああああああああ

And by that I mean it's a hidden NPC in Yume Nikki that only has a 1/64 chance of appearing assuming you can even find it.

Personally, I just play games for the exploions.
True story: I was sold on Iji not because of the story, or the killcount mechanic, or the art, but because I saw a video of it and all the explosions. That was what told me I had to play it.

Hey, I added some RPG elements but suck at balance or knowing how to use them correctly. I could use some help with formulas or how to use the stats I have.

so far I have: str, def, mag, magdef, agi, dex, int, hp, mp, and attack speed. These where the first stats I thought of.

Right now I have basic (my.str - their.def = attack) but I am not happy with it, or the balance while I level up.

Any ideas? I am pretty much open to anything or any formulas, just shooting for some balance.

I'm hardly an expert in RPG formulas, but as far as I know multiplication/division are normally used for damage rather than addition/subtraction, since it's harder to get numbers below zero. Pure addition/subtraction systems are usually only employed when the entire gameplay mechanics are pretty simple, since if you are sloppy about values in an addition-based system you very frequently end up with values under zero. As in, enemies basically divided into "things that do massive damage" and "things that can't scratch you".

This game has the greatest bug (feature?) I managed to make it to lvl 6 as the social media expert, pushing piles of enemies to the right, and all of a sudden the game broke and I started to level up dozens of levels per second. I shut the game window after I hit level 2000, fearing a catastrophic crash...

Class: Fire mage
Gold: 1031
Distance: 84
Monsters Killed: 30
Food Eaten: 66

Total Score: 207612

I was doing great, then a slime slimed me for 57 (which killed me, even though I was at nearly full health at level 9 or 10 or something).

Fun little game!

that's awesome, how did you make it to level 6? I've never made him to level 3

oh, yeah the slimes have a powerful but slow attack, but a 1 shot is not good.

I'm not really sure.. I kept pushing right and mashing x+c, though it didn't seem to do anything with the social media expert

I did enjoy the "Goblin has 21 subscribers" bit though, and the "You digg Goblin x times". I work with a number of so-called "Social Media Experts" so I found that particularly humorous.

I had no idea the game was winnable, then I got to a randomly placed goal at distance 45.
Victory!

If you're gonna keep working on this, might I suggest placing pickups as items you can use with X instead of auto-use, to add some kind of strategic element other than holding right and pressing C every now and then?

This is awesome.  It reminds me of progress quest but it's actually kind of fun to watch/play for a bit.

Liked: The boiling down of the genre to the only components any player is interested in, combat and picking up loot.

Disliked: The lack of any real involvement for the player. Also, it was often difficult to tell what was going on, more visual cues would have helped this. Maybe display hit points as a graphical bar below the players feet, and show damage dealt directly in the display instead of above it :shrug2:.

Conclusion: I can see what you are going for with this one, but it doesn't quite do it for me.
