The fact that somebody saying little more than "there should be more female indie game developers" gets a big fuck you on these forums* seems to indicate there's a problem.
* by one guy, but still
That isn't why I said "fuck him/her." I said that because what he or she wrote is bullshit. I am all for more female developers in the indie game community. In fact, everyone here is. I was just criticizing the writer. It's just that people don't want to recognize stuff like Farmville as indie games.
/doubletake Farmville doesn't have a publisher. This means that it is an indie game. It's not like an indie game has to be made by one dude in his basement for free.

@Inane I know, I know. I just decided to commandeer this thread to air my grievances over the whole "WOMEN DON'T PLAY VIDEO GAMES WWAAAAAH" issue. Anyway, what the fuck is with the guy (gal?) writing this? All he (she?) really says is "Hey indie game communities you guys are totally sexist so stop doing that!" when most of the indie game communities I've seen treat women quite well. It's not a problem of the community whipping out their cocks every time a women passes by. The issue is that assholes like this one assume it is and tell everyone that. And saying that Super Columbine Massacre RPG had the same problems as Hey Baby is irritating. I actually thought that SCMRPG's art looked quite good, whereas Hey Baby is this janky, 3D mess that looks juust good enough that it can communicate its ideas in an easily understandable fashion. If that's not enough for most people, I can understand. Basically, this writer is making up issues. So fuck him/her.

Indie games are stacked to the brim with women. It's just that people don't want to recognize stuff like Farmville as indie games. Every woman I know with an iPhone has it filled with word game apps or somesuch.
Remember, kids: It's not a video game if it's not hardcore, apparently.

Yeah, the GTA style gameplay actually works better in Red Dead Redemption because it takes place in the wild west which actually was that violent. Even in real life, the old west was a pretty chaotic time to live. There were shootouts, people died left and right, it was known for notorious criminals like Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, etc. It works in the mythic wild west setting, but in reality, the "wild west" was just that, a myth. By crime statistics present-day America is more dangerous than the Wild West. Current-day Americans averages more guns than people in the Wild West (sorry, I can't find my source for this statement). Etc etc. http://www.cracked.com/article_18487_6-ridiculous-history-myths-you-probably-think-are-true.htmlhttp://www.buzzle.com/articles/the-wild-west-of-myth-and-reality.htmlhttp://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/viewpoints/articles/0717hill0717.htmlhttp://www.unpopulartruth.com/2009/04/myths-of-old-west.htmlIt is a very nice but fictional setting, though. (Note to Americans: I am not American. I am not interested in taking part of any gun control debates.) I seem to recall that the crime of murder had different criteria back then. If someone had the opportunity to shoot back at you, it wasn't considered murder. So there were a fuckton of shooting deaths, just fewer "murders." I could be pulling all of that out of my ass, though, I'm not quite sure.

[...]and of course, the opportunity to play the other side, the police detectives looking into the various crimes being committed during the missions, a kind of side-story deal.
Rockstar is making LA Noire, a game set in the, uh... 1920s, I think, wherein you play as a grizzled, noir-y detective. Supposedly, it will focus on the investigation part of the job, with the occasional shootout or chase for good measure. They're using an amazing facial animation technique that they invented to create more characters whose faces you'll need to watch during interrogations. They're also forcing the player to more deliberately investigate areas, as important objects won't start magically glowing, as if to say, "Lookitme lookitme press the action button alreaaaddyyyyy." It looks awesome is what I'm saying. I just felt like mentioning it.

In first person games, I want my character to shut the eff up. When you take away a character's face and put the player behind his or her eyes, it's really weird to hear them say the exact opposite of what you're thinking, you know?

Except that most of the time people describe the execution when they describe an idea. Nobody seriously trying to explain, say, 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' says, "It's a movie about cowboys looking for buried treasure." They say, "It's a fun, smart action movie about cowboys looking for buried treasure." Unless, of course, one or more of those things have already been implied or explained.

I dunno if anyone has played Deadly Premonition at all but I was really surprised by the soundtrack, its quite good.
Yes. Very much so. The instrumental poor man's American Idiot is kind of ridiculous, though.

Spoooillleeers
Edgar is a dick to Marston, but he seemed very sincere when, after Dutch's death, he told John that he was free to go. At that point, he believed that John had paid his debt to society and that nothing more was required. Edgar's employer thought otherwise, of course, and this led to Bad Times, USA. Besides, when you kill him, he's retired, he's out huntin' by the river with his brother. Any harm he may have caused is in the past. He's trying to live in peace, away from all the killing and destruction to which he had grown accustomed. It just felt weird to shoot him in the face. I mean, how did his wife feel? His brother? I never like killing a well-written, developed character, especially when I'm given a choice.

Yes, that one. I actually quite liked it because [MAJOR STORY SPOILERS AHEAD] I felt that it gave me a great amount of choice. Jack's story was my own to write, at this point, and I chose to write a revenge story. And, honestly? I felt damned guilty after doing it. Seriously, Edgar was a dick, but I could tell that, quite honestly, he wasn't exactly happy about killing Marston. To him, this was a job. Nothing more. And that's what I killed him for. I killed a man for doing his goddamn job. It really said a lot about me, this whole situation. This is what I want more games to do. This game honest-to-goodness taught me something about myself. The rest of the game felt like a buildup to that moment. Rockstar really did something wonderful, here, and I hope to see more of this kind of thing from other developers.

How powerful is the 3DS? [...] Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. - IGN Oh, Christ, what if it's true, though? (I know it's not BUT WHAT IF IT WAS?)

You are lucky. I for one have been having these really strange dreams lately. I keep dreaming about these strange stone cities. Great cyclopean cities built from huge titan blocks, against a backdrop of sky flung monoliths. Everything dripping with green ooze. Its always the same, this vista of dark and dripping stone.. and sometimes a subterranean voice monotonously shouting unintelligible gibberish over and over...
I only wish i could dream about Phil Fish.
Hey, did you guys hear about the quakes in Chile and Haiti?...oh, sorry, my mind is a bit scrambled right now, i digress...
Aw, man, does that mean that Gears of War is going to become real? Couldn't something like unicorns do that instead? Man, this universe sucks.

I wouldn't really call Persona low-profile.
But yeah they are fun to watch, though I find the Brad and Ryan one less amusing. Vinny and Jeff simply seem more funny overall.
Yeah, I watched the Brad/Ryan one for the first three episodes and got tired of them whining. I'm not sure if they loosened up later, but I don't think I'd want to watch the videos to find out. Also, Vinny is quite possibly the Jolliest Person on Earth. I love how, at the end of the DP ER, he was all, "See you next time!" whereas Jeff was staunchly opposed to doing this again. You know it's going to happen, though. You just know it.
