There's a great load of ideas for games there!

One I laughed out loud when I read was F.I.S.T.

Or should I say...
Fingerwork-
Intensifying
Super-
Tool

 ?
Cool

(Got nothing for PALADIN yet)

Surrealism, yes please. :D

----

A more complicated(?) idea: Sprite Sheet Giveaway Compo - A game of two halves

1) Everyone has like a week to make a sprite sheet for a character or object. It could be a protagonist, a boss, an item that moves (such as a door), a vehicle (such as a spaceship).

2) On the day of the deadline, everyone passes their sprite sheet on to the next person who posted their entry's thread. Then everyone makes games using the sprite sheet that they were given. How prominently the sprite sheet is used is up to the sporstmanship of the competitor. (e.g., where some might turn the sprite into the main character, other, less sporting folks may simply use the sheet itself as part of the background. Others might use the sprites for something unexpected, such as... a gun that shoots tiny little protagonists out of its barrel...)

Sprites may be "adapted" slightly to suit graphics modes, preferably with minor changes if any. (For example if you do your work in a pixel-based environment and someone gives you a bunch of high-detail vector images drawn in Photoshop or modelled in 3DSMax, you may wish to pixellate them down and then highlight a few lost features.) How faithful you are to the original is up to you.  Smiley

Most of the problems with this idea may boil down to "my original sprites were used differently to how I intended.  Cry", but that's half the fun! Play nicely and it could result in lots of fun for everyone (except those who abandon their entry (like I did in the CPB compo), shame on you!  Hand Shake LeftLips Sealed).

Edit: I guess by "sprite sheet" I include the meaning "character model sheet".

CGA compo for the win! Magenta, cyan, white (and shades thereof)! Corny Laugh

Or just a compo where the colours are important in some way would be fun.

Cave Story time

Handy things I learned at life drawing classes:

When starting off with your basic shapes, remember that the adult male's centre of mass is closer to the chest, whereas an adult female's is lower, like around the hips. (This lower centre of mass allows women to more naturally put their weight on one leg without compromising balance like top-heavy men would, as december pointed out.)

Similarly when animating: a feminine walk is often one that uses the hips prominently - a manly walk is usually one with a lot of shoulder movement. These should be the widest parts of each body (not necessarily true for every case in real life, but certainly if you're stylising your drawings).

Taper fingers, and make the hands of women smaller overall.

Keep up your life drawing regularly if you want to get better (and stay better)!

P.S. In general, for figure drawing, draw the head LAST! Wink

High dynam...?
...I pressed the button on my camera and it went click.  Embarrassed

*googles for HDR*

Nope! I guess it just came out nicely. The sky looks cloudy, but it was one of those days where there's still enough sunlight to make you squint all day if you don't have sunglasses.

If the "You Have To Verb The Noun" was taken as a starting point or the playing instructions for a game (as I thought the intention was) rather than its title, then it wouldn't seem like an unnecessary tribute to "You have to burn the rope".
Based on the vibe of previous competitions, I don't think many TIG-ers would make games that weren't worth their time. :3

An "outside the box" theme would be rad, but that's an approach that seems to turn up in every compo regardless of theme. That's what I enjoy most about these things.   SmileyHand Metal Right

Whoah that reminds me of some spam emails I've gotten. :D

Idea: Make games based on spam emails

* Nigerian Millionaire Escapade
* Aztec Q. Ampersand in "The Real Man with Huge Dignity"
* Dr. Nicholas Perricone and the Acai Berry
* Quest for the Perfect Rolex

Yeah...  Durr...?

Maybe the competition already HAS started... WTF  And the theme is "initiative".
The end of the contest will be announced unexpectedly, and everyone who got off their butts and made a game regardless of a compo being started, will have their game judged as an entry...

Screamy

Sounds interesting! Memories of playing 2-player Worms II with my little bro come to mind.

"Games for more than one player" might satisfy the Hotseat-, Network-, and 2P1K- (2 players 1 keyboard Tongue) camps.  Shrug

Me neither! (I have so much fan-art of him from the early 2000's it's not funny...)

Jeez Louise, this Mario fanart is epic. (I didn't make this.)

I'll take it! Gentleman

*impatient for any-themed compo to begin*

Whoah, congrats to everyone with games in the article! They all looked & sounded really professional ... except maybe "Cactus's Entry", but I'm glad that one was included because it's got a crazyfun visual style when you play it.   Gentleman (And it is really well done despite the screenshot's appearance.)

How come the economy hasn't recovered yet?  Mock Anger

Congratulations USA.  Beer!
I thought it was ominous how, when elected, he said it was up to America to make sure the President does his job... So if he screws up, it's... your fault? I'm sure it was just his way of saying that he can't do everything by himself.  Smiley

You have to wash the water
...And burn the fire?

You have to tell campfire tales with the world where many things are the opposite of what they are in our world:
"And there, on the roof of the car, amid the scratchmarks left by the escaped sane man's wooden spoon, was ... HER BOYFRIEND'S ROOF RACK!"  Evil

You have to break up with the catapault
I'm sorry, it's not you it's mEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeee...............................*splat*

You have to remember the good old days of the American way
Ahhh yes, those were the days.

You have to fight the kid who always picked on you in elementary school
It's the only way they'll ever learn.

You have to try the emo kid
It's delicious this time of year.

You have to make a game about the student driver
Oh, now there's a keeper. :D

You have to suit up and go inside the spelunker
Yo dog I herd you like spelunking, so we're making you spelunk inside your spelunker so you can spelunk while you spelunk!

You have to be racist about the Chipmunks
Buck-toothed, high-pitched-voiced little nut-munchers....

You have to flee fromt he South Pole
It's... ESCAPE FROM PENGUINOPOLIS!

You have to google for Rule 34 of the goofy sidekick
........Et tu, Stimpy?  Cry

You have to commandeer the International Space Station
Has potential...

You have to usher in the glorious age of the Aristocrats joke
Oh... dear....   Lips Sealed

Here are some amusingly disturbing web-comic depictions of Mario...

The "Eegra" ones are from a site that sometimes picks out renditions of game characters on DeviantArt and critiques them, so upload your art from this thread to DA and they might get reviewed, if the all-seeing eye of Eegra deigns your work worthy of comment.
