I am still super confused by that robots arm.  And yeah i think you need to get the colors down to increase readability.

Anyone who wants to can write code for OSX, it's not closed at all.  Just write some C and compile with gcc or something and there you go, can't get any simpler then that.
203  Player / General / Re: Do you smoke? on: November 06, 2011, 12:41:43 AM
I can't imagine ever smoking basically because I use my lungs a lot (running and other cardiovascular exercise) and wouldn't want them to deteriorate in any way.
204  Developer / Business / Re: Alpha Pricing on: November 05, 2011, 11:45:34 AM
Right if it's mainstream you'll sell more and there is more competition so you need to price it lower

If it's niche there's less options for other people so you can price it more and you also want to price it higher since you won't sell as many.

Yeah seeing as it says they are for a class I immediately figured it was a study of some type.

Also I really like the line work in all your drawings, especially kuzco.  It looks so nice and flowy

Thanks.

I did more frame drawings today.  I planned on going back to doing multiple full drawings to but I did one and then just kinda wanted to do a bunch of frames.  I think I'll do some full drawing tomorrow though Smiley

This time my focus was on getting longer/smoother strokes which was kinda fun.

i can't think of any game that i've really enjoyed playing that was made in a few months, though,

Do most people feel like this?  I mostly like games made in a few months or less.  For example ludum dare games and most of NMcCoy's weekly games.

I guess I mostly like them aa quick/interesting/creative gimmicks as apposed to games I get sucked into but I do end up playing/enjoying many more of them then I do long 2-3 year project games.

I wasn't really interested in playing Chrono Trigger, but I found this mod/hack that makes it harder & I suppose no grinding (don't know if there is any in the original), its called Level Zero (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/111/). Has anyone tried it?

I haven't heard of the hack but it is possible to play through the original game while not leveling your characters at all (so you complete the game with everyone at level 1).  This is because equipment has a big effect on your stats and also because there is an item which turns xp into money, so after you get that you can still fight the mandatory fights.

By redoing the same model multiple times do you mean like the same exact picture or a different pose but the same person?

Anyway I wasn't really feeling it today but I still got in my 40 min - 1hour of practice time.  I decided to just do a bunch of frame drawings of the first picture from yesterday.

I didn't spend time on any of them it was pretty much draw a frame quickly, check it against the photo, "damn I'm off here", make a couple of refrence marks and go back to step one.  None of them really look any good though and there are a lot of them so I don't really feel like uploading them.  I assume this type of practice is good?  It seemed to be what people were advising but I'm never to sure.

Also I'm getting better at drawing from the elbow.  Thing is some strokes are really hard to do from the elbow. I end up positioning my arm at all kinds of weird angles in order to get the movement of my elbow to line up with the direction of the stroke, is this normal?
210  Player / Games / Re: Angry Birds on: November 03, 2011, 03:39:49 PM
Yeah I mean a bunch of these have to be from the same people otherwise

0.5/7 = 1/14 = 7% of the people in the world own angry birds which is pretty nuts.
211  Player / Games / Re: Greatest and most popular RPGs: a poll ! on: November 03, 2011, 02:14:43 PM
I'm not that into rpgs so any rpg i complete means I thought it was good.  My list of completed rpgs...

chrono trigger
all the pokemons
FF V
If you count them...
gba fire emblems

212  Developer / Design / Re: Importance of screen size on: November 02, 2011, 09:45:21 PM
I thought the control setup on the wonderswan was so cool because you could play with it horizontal (gba style) or vertical...

10 more to unlock achievement  Coffee Hand Thumbs Up Right

Yeah that's kinda what i feel like at this point Smiley

@Derek
I had to look up what rendering means (in my head it just means to draw stuff (like as in the renderer in my code is the part of the code which draws the scene).  It looks like it means shading and textures and such?

Ahh yeah I know the image your talking about, that makes sense.

Thanks for showing the sketch!  It's helpful to look at and is also nice to have something to work towards Smiley

Anyway I ended up doing a second set of images last night and so I have two sets to show off today.

Unfortunatly, I think I might have lost my not overdoing it with the rendering on that last one :|
To me they look about the same as the previous days in that the first one is way off and then the last one is a bit better.  I think my first ones are getting closer to being correct though, which seems a good sign

Regarding measuring... what you can do is hold up your tablet pen and measure from the end of the pen, using your thumb to mark the length.

Glad it doesn't appear like I'm just disregarding all your advice Smiley.  Ahh ok that makes sense but it also brings up something that I'm probably doing wrong.  I'm drawing a bit zoomed in (not much probably around 150%) so (in screen space) my drawing is a bit bigger then the refrence image I'm doing...  Now that I understand the measuring this seems like it probably isn't a great idea...  I'll start drawing at the same size as my refrence image and that way I can measure the two.

I did the same as yesterday only this time I drew a frame like Gimmy suggested over the refrence before doing the tracing to try to work on my volume stuff.  Then I used this frame for drawing the final version (this felt pretty cheaty to me but I like the resulting image so...).

So the total process was...
draw frame from eye
draw figure based on frame (this is the yellow one)
trace frame
trace figure (this is the red one)
draw figure using traced frame (this is the green one)
hopefully that's an ok way to go about practicing.

Once again the first one is way off.  I tried the legs for a while and then got frustrated and just kinda gave up, they turned out much better in the next 2 although they were mainly where I messed up in number 3.  I think the measuring would have really helped with getting the legs right as the perspective ness of them through my eyes off but would not have tricked a ruler Smiley

went tricker treating with my family.  We've done it for a long time now and the youngest of us is now 19 and our average age is around 30.

ahh whoops I misread your post, I thought you were asking what the game was with giant buttons, I didn't see that it was one giant button and that you weren't asking.  pop 'n music has many giant buttons Smiley

Also I had no idea there was an arcade rhythm tengoku I want to play that so bad now  WTF
218  Developer / Business / Re: Indies in an economic downturn on: October 31, 2011, 01:25:58 PM
yeah but the % of people who get into the humble indie game bundle are like 0.1% of indies. are you seriously suggesting that just because a couple of indie games are doing well that makes everything alright?

I don't think he was saying that that shows indies are all doing ok I think he was just refuting this quote (I bolded the important bit)...

Quote
This is the real issue. To me, it seems that the 'race to the bottom' devalutation of indie games (well, and games in general), via the App Store, Indie Bundles, relentless Steam Sales, and so on has done more harm than the economic mess we're in.

He's just saying that the humble bundle isn't a devaluation of indie games like some of the others are...

There was one giant button you have to slap, it was pretty great.

That would be pop 'n music.  Also my favorite BEMANI game

Yeah my experience with arcades is similar to Samtagonist in that it was a cheap place to hang out.  I still do go to the one I went to as a kid often.  It's an awesome arcade.
