Here's a bit of perspective: Sony, like many other like companies, send representatives to recruit from colleges and universities. Those students end up as nothing more than a summer intern. Oh, and many of those students? They're capable of drawing like this.

And here we have the TANKTANK without the ROCKET FIRE: I want this game to have Iji-style windows for the tank to smash through. And, like, mobsters or something to be all like "Oh, crap! It's a tank!"

Taking away any control from the user, and potential control input options from the designer, is totally unacceptable.
Sorry, what? Flash prioritizes security and cross-platformness above these considerations. Not all systems have right-mouse buttons. What system capable of displaying Flash files doesn't support right mouse buttons? Plus, any system without a right mouse button probably isn't going to have a scroll wheel as well. Also, sometimes when I click the right mouse button on a Flash file, the pop-up menu can cause Flash to crash whatever browser I'm running at the time.

Why do people try use the "it's such-and-such way in the actual game" argument? If the sky gradient were lighter, you wouldn't no longer be able to tell what game it was from. It's usually a dumb idea to sacrifice artistic quality for some kind of obscure accuracy. I mean, the ground in the level looks almost nothing like the ground in the actual game, does it?
Sorry if I'm blowing things out of proportion, but I keep seeing this kind of thing pop up in this project's threads.

Ya but the thing about javascript extensions (if I'm not mistaken) is that the javascript has to be on the html page the swf is embedded on. Well, that sucks. I guess it was too good to be true. So they want to take one of the first decent portable environments we've ever had and break the portability? EPIC FAIL!
Still, why is Flash only supporting of ONE button? In the move from AS2 to AS3, they even removed the support for the middle mouse button! The world is going into multi-touch screens and Flash only wants to support one mouse button?

So do we want to start accepting requests from forum members to have a Dwarf named after them in the fortress? That might boost forum participation, and be more entertaining for those who don't want to run the fortress themselves.

I haven't had time to work on this for the last few weeks, and I won't any time soon. Here's the latest build: http://www.boogatech.com/temp/demo.htmlArrow keys and spacebar to control tank. Numberpad + and - to control camera zoom. TankTank Rocket FireControl a tank and do stuff. Why? I haven't thought of that yet. Also, the tank can fly. Movement and aim is controlled by hovering the mouse over the control stick on the panel. Weapons/abilities are activated by clicking the mouse button and changed through the mouse wheel. I have no idea how far I'll get in this, as I've got midterms, homework, a freelance project that needs to be finished before I start on anything else, and a university animation program application portfolio deadline mere days after the end of this competition. This will be done in Flash with the Box2D physics library. Videos2|28|09 - Images2|21|09 - Concept art 2|25|09 - Box2D Testing 3|4|09 - Level generator testing

Lemmings was sort of a 'cockpit' game, wasn't it? Wouldn't most RTS and SIM games have a display that could be loosely classified as "God Cockpits"? I don't know how far we're allowed to bend things, but I certainly don't have the time to learn how to do anything game-related in 3D right now, with school and work and all.

I found that dead bodies only bounce off springs when killed by falling damage, and only if not falling due to being hurt.
I need to sleep. I just laughed my head off at the sight of a room full of bouncing snakes.

*irate gibberish* That's it. I'm dropping Encyclopedia Dramatica into the Ad-Block filter so I don't confuse it with Wikipedia. EVER. AGAIN.

Big improvement on the character! I get the whole intentional misplacing of the ladder rungs thing, but I think it might look better to have an additional ladder sprite with the top rung moved up so that you have some rungs in groups of three, some in two, and some in four.

As an artist-type person, I was hoping to team up with a programmer in the next compo. I have no idea how to use Blender, let alone, get something from that into a game. And know that it will look right when put in the game.

http://boogatech.com/content.php?id=175And the copy-paste description from my website: I've had this sitting on my hard drive since December 2007. This was made for an illustration class for a story about a Mayan princess. It's theoretically unfinished, since there were supposed to be people in the background which never got put in.

Haven't we had pixelshader 2.0 cards for 6 years, now? Don't even the cheapest nVidia or ATI graphics cards support it these days?

One year, especially this early in the game, really only takes two hours tops to complete. Limiting terms to "one year game or one week real life" would probably work best, with each person starting the next one Monday and having until the next Sunday night to post their progress.
