I popped over to the EDGE Forums to see if their community knew any more about Langdell. I kind of got an official response.

I'm trying to find the developer of the mobile phone version. It's credited to a polish development 'group' called Omnigence. As far as I can tell they have made only one game and that was Bobby Bearing.

I still can't get hold of the game though.

I'm gonna think this game doesn't exists or wasn't even released, there's no way to buy it online, i tried to buy it from the sites were liked here and do a seach, nothing, i cannot fuckin' buy it in any manner.
Quite strange for a "best seller" mobile game isn't it?

Why isn't the EDGE game I want available via my wireless operator?
We would like to know that too! Please ask your operator to stock our games and also write our customer service department via e-mail to help us ensure that all operators stock all of our games.
I may just do that Tim.

I don't think so Tim. I'm pretty sure that was EDGE magazine and not EDGE Games. I think Future Publishing has get wise as GDC 09 partner was EDGE Online. Bad luck Tim, you were a little to late in getting that one.

If what David Papazian is saying is true then Tim Langdell is breaking UK law. It is a clear case of extortion and fraud. The facts are that EDGE Games haven't produced a pruduct of any kind since 1994.

This is not necessarily true, it seems they've published mobile games.
http://www.the--edge.com/edgemobile/mgames.htm
No they haven't. That website is a front. It was set up to challenge Mobigames' and others claim to the EDGE name. Try buying an EDGE mobile game. You can't because they don't exist. They never did exist. That website claims that "Bobby Bearing has become one of the biggest selling mobile games after 3 straight years of sales." yet I cannot find a single version of it anywhere on any site. Does it exist? Did it ever exist?

/EDIT: Interesting I have found the game, but I can't download it as my mobile apparently doesn't support it.

If what David Papazian is saying is true then Tim Langdell is breaking UK law. It is a clear case of extortion and fraud. The facts are that EDGE Games haven't produced a pruduct of any kind since 1994. Now let us put that into context within the games industry, the last time EDGE Games made anything 3d Realms hadn't even started work on Duke Nukem: Forever. He is obfuscating the facts for financial gain. EDGE Games is clearly a front for Tim Langdell's extortion racket and Modigames should take Tim's own advice and higher a solicitor and fight this in a UK court.

To those wanting to get the mainstream press involved, has anyone thought of contacting Future Publishing. Tim appears to be misrepresenting the relationship between the two and their legal team might be interested in his recent activity. I'm sure they don't wish to be tarnished with the same brush as Langdell. They may also have a case for having his EDGE Trademark terminated as EDGE Games hasn't traded in 15 years. At the very least they may be able to shed some light on their relationship with EDGE Games.

I would also like to public go on record as saying Tim Langdell CEO of EDGE Games is a liar, cheat, conman, fraudster and an extortionist. If he wishes to challenge my claims I will be happy to hear from his solicitor.
1726  Player / Games / Re: Mobigame's Edge pulled because of the word Edge on: June 02, 2009, 04:23:15 AM
I'd be interested to see what Tim Langdell would do if the internet was suddenly flooded with games with edge in the title. If there were enough of them, non of the creators backed down and non of the games directly referenced EDGE, The EDGE, EDGE Games, Gamer's EDGE or Cutting EDGE, then what would Tim do? Would he take all of the creators to court? The legal fees alone would be enormous without even considering the logistics of fighting so many cases at once.

A few name suggestions, you know, just for fun.
Edge of forever
Edge of Town
Jagged Edge
Leading Edge
Postcards from the Edge
River's Edge
Knife's Edge
Straight Edge

Edge of the Seat
Living on the Edge

Maybe I'm just thinking out loud.

The EDGE: The Game 5
Coming soon....

I think this is the perfect time to announce the fifth installment in my highly rated and well established game series The EDGE. The first The EDGE game debuted in 1983 and was well established as a quality IP before 1984.

Expect a full and detailed Wiki page about it's long and well known history to appear on Wikipedia soon. I just need to get my wife to make it up first.

I'd happily challenge this guy in british court. I wouldn't take my chances in a US courtroom. I'm definately caling my next game EDGE though.

I'd recommend Naked Wars by the Pickford Bros. It's a play-by-email turn based strategy. Not very well known, but definitely a classic.

Anyone in in the north west of England should check out the Urbis in Manchester. They currently have a gaming exhibition on called Videogame Nation.

Main link: http://www.urbis.org.uk/page.asp?id=3296

It's not strictly about indie games, however on June 7th Introversion's Chris Delay and Mark Morris will be giving a talk about starting out as an indie.

Event link: http://www.urbis.org.uk/page.asp?id=3332

If any of you are attending I may see you there, although the week after Jon Hare is giving a talk about the making of Sensible World of Soccer which just might get my precious £5 instead.

How about Darwinia? It's indie, it's great fun, it's OSX, it's €13.30, and by the sounds of it Introversion need the cash so you can feel good about helping a struggling indie.

1734  Player / General / Re: What are you reading? on: April 29, 2009, 02:49:05 AM
I only recall three books... Huh?
Book I, The Return of the Shadow
Book II, The Fellowship of the Ring
Book III, The Treason of Isengard
Book IV, The Journey to Mordor
Book V, The War of the Ring
Book VI, The Return of the King

I don't like the films because the guy playing Merry is annoying as hell and there's no Tom Bombadil.
I thought the part with Tom Bombadil/Barrow Wights was rather pointless and a bit boring. He is just so out of place with the rest of the story and the feel/mood of the books.

The thing that I found most strange about the films was the way the film makers have changed the personalities of nearly all the characters. Aragorn, Treebeard, Gimli, Faramir, Theodin, Denethor, and many others are in fact the polar opposite in terms of personality when comparing the books to films.
1735  Player / General / Re: What are you reading? on: April 28, 2009, 03:46:33 AM
all parts of THE LORD OF THE RINGS by J.R.R. Tolkien.,.
Including the fellowship of the ring, the two towers and the return of  the king.
You may be a spam bot, but I am actually reading The Lord Of The Rings at the moment. I'm starting the sixth book today. It's really strange having seen the films before reading the books as they are totally different yet somehow the same. I prefer the first film to the first two books, but I'm finding the last four books much better than the last two films.

- Use Vertex Buffer Objects (search for opengl VBO) or display lists
if you are not using that for rendering, you are lazy and code runs slow Smiley
In my experience VBOs are slower than Vertex Arrays on systems with shared video memory. Not an issue if you're aiming at the hard core market, but most casual gamers have intergrated graphics with shared memory. Just something to consider.

As stated in the original post, we are using the Leadwerks 2 Engine, which we will be licensing within the next three weeks. Development of the PC title (besides design which has already begun) will begin this June/July.
Ouch! I'd consider a different engine if I were you. Even if I wanted to become part of your team it'd cost me a fortune to get my rig up to the minimum specs. to run Leadwerks engine games, let alone develop them. And if I remember rightly, which I'm sure I do, the Leadwerks people seem to keep starting work on the next iteration of their engine before finishing the last. Not the kind of engine you want to buy the early adopters version for, if you get what I mean.
1738  Community / Competitions / Re: *NEW* Idea pool for future TIGS Compos on: March 25, 2009, 04:09:57 AM
I didn't read all 60-odd pages so shoot me if these have been suggested already, but anyway here goes.

Beyond the Fourth Wall
This idea is based on games being self referential, and/or referencing the real world as a gameplay element. Examples of what I mean could be as extreme as StarTropics, whose game box contained a real-world letter that the player had to physicaly dip in water to reveal a code that allows the game to continue, or as simple as Sonic tapping his foot at a player who leaves the game idle for to long. Other good examples are Metal Gear Solid and Eternal Darkness which both refer to themselves as games within the storyline.

Subverted Gameplay
This idea takes established gameplay conventions then subverts them in ways the player would not expect. An example might be as simple as gold coin collecting, but the player gets weighed down by the gold and becomes slower and can't jump as high. Can't think of a really good example of this at the moment, best I've got is Pole's Big Adventure which lets you enter a Mario style warp pipe then spits you out covered in sewage.

Anyhow, just a few thoughts.

Hey this is quite cool, thank you!

I wonder why nobody reacted to this, is BlitzMax not really used anymore in 2009?
Thanks for trying them. I think it was a mistake for me to list them all in one go. Maybe it over-faced everyone. Next time I'll post them as I make them.

Spire of Ooze could use some work.
Hehe. I don't think that's much of a surprise considering I spent less than four hours making it.

It also won't close.
Not sure why that would be. It just uses a standard Windows window. Anyhow, just for you here's a little update.

It's getting bigger, and now is hydro powered!

Cool stuffs. I wanna go to war in a pink spaceship, just to confuse my enemies (or blind them).
Useless bit of trivia, but the RAF used pink spitfires during world war II. It was the ideal camouflage during dask/dawn reconnaissance runs.
