If this guy is trolling for attention, he flippin' deserves it. I laughed out loud at the "reptilians" bit (not a clever thing to do when you just removed a wisdom tooth), and will more than gladly feed this troll. Heck, Bloxidy looks a pretty decent game.

If he's serious, he needs help.

Alright now send the check we've discussed. You know who you owe your success.  Cool

Don't underestimate the power of Java. It has its place and isn't going anywhere.
I second that.

Many people here seem to overlook that java is a very popular much used language (i.e. http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html). You may not come in contact with java when you develop games, but in the business world java is the programming language of choice.

Point is that the area where Java is strongest, which is server-side programming, is taken care of. Java wouldn't die there since Oracle takes care of that. It's their moneymaker.

When it comes to client-side desktop applications? Not so much. The major argument for Java in that area is portability and with Mac compatibility gone it gets much less attractive. Oracle doesn't care, they make money with their server implementations.

For us users though it's a) bad because you lose a choice for cross-platform development and b) Mac users lose a lot of interesting projects. I'd reckon Processing would be hit especially hard since it seems that Mac and Processing communities overlap quite a bit.

In any case since Apple promised to keep the old Java implementation in for at least Lion, I think it will luckily work out somehow

I feel kinda sorry for him... I mean, it must be a hassle to live seeing conspiracies where there are none Sad

Seems to be a defense-mechanism, so living without it is probably harder for him.

When it was released it was a mess. I don't know how much they have improved it though. In any case I don't really see it being an interesting alternative to Unity.
110  Player / General / Re: Subwoofers on: November 11, 2010, 02:14:30 PM
I don't like subwoofers. All they seem to do is make the really low bass notes way too loud and out of place with the rest of the music.
With a good setup they shouldn't do that. Subwoofers are supposed to fill the lower frequencies, not make the lower frequencies dominant
111  Player / General / Re: PS3 Games on: November 11, 2010, 04:15:39 AM
Mass Effect 2 port (not 100% on this, but I've heard in addition to all of the current DLC, there will be some PS3 exclusive DLC as well. Probably due to the fact that ME3 *probably* isn't coming to the PS3, seeing as how they seem to only be porting the one game so far)
Mass Effect 3 probably is coming to the PS3, it might even be a simultaneous launch.

Stop connecting the ends to a circle.  Crazy
114  Player / General / Re: Kinect... Racist?! on: November 07, 2010, 11:54:58 AM
That would be impressive if it were truth, but you may notice that the fursuiter is slightly farther from the Kinect than the other dancer and there seems to be only one player character. So who is the one really playing?
Yup Dance Central is a single-player game, so there's really no furry playing in that video.
115  Developer / Technical / Re: What language should I learn, dudes? on: November 07, 2010, 02:30:16 AM
If you want to start with right away I would try GameMaker or Unity.
For some more do-it-yourself I would say Love2D. In any case I think Lua is a good language to learn. It's simple, elegant and if you need extra functionality it's easy to interface with C. Even if you eventually get used to C/C++ it's still useful as a scripting language.

But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!
Sorry there ain't no hope for you, dude!
117  Player / General / Re: Kinect... Racist?! on: November 05, 2010, 03:34:13 PM
Even if that was a sarcastic joke, I cringed.  Concerned

I think they meant that machines would end up killing black people before the machines turn evil because black people are invisible to them. Wink

It's only your sad, Internet-soaked mind seeing racism.

Yeah, I meant how are robots supposed to be kept from harming humans by Asimov's laws when they can't even tell who's human.  Embarrassed
118  Player / General / Re: Kinect... Racist?! on: November 05, 2010, 04:21:58 AM
Well, at least the black people will be safe when the motherfucking machines take over.
Or they will be wiped out before the machines even take over since they are not recognized as humans.  My Word!
119  Developer / Technical / Re: UNITY3D Multiplayer Possibilities on: November 03, 2010, 03:49:54 PM
AI War was rewritten in Unity so I'd say it's totally possible.
120  Player / Games / Re: So... Super Meat Boy. on: November 01, 2010, 09:29:59 AM
Nikujin is actually in the cutscene when you beat Ogmo's levels. He's the Toad character.

I'm thinking Viridian for sure. Canabalt dude as well.

I just listened to the Indiegames podcast. Because of the competition Edmund told Michael which characters are in and he said that about 3/4 of the guesses are just plain wrong. This could be interesting.
